Legal Considerations
Instructions: Write a
paragraph for each scenario that answers the following question: What are the key terms from Chapters 14/18 that might be used to describe each scenario?
After you discuss this with your group, have one person in the group turn this in for credit with the names of everyone who participated on it.
Chapter 14
1.
The basketball gym in your facility has had a leaky roof for the past 3 months. One day, while its raining, water was dripping on to the floor and one of your members slipped on the water and fell, bumping his head and getting a concussion. 2.
One of your employees is training a new client who has little experience with weightlifting. You notice the trainer teaching power clean form (an advanced lift) to the new client and is beginning to add weights to the lift (meaning, the client is using weights in the movement). 3.
You have just hired a personal trainer and notice that when he is performing the training sessions, he frequently touches the female clients to indicate the muscle groups being used and teach proper technique. 4.
You begin work at a new state of the art multi-purpose gym facility that has multiple areas for free weights, machines and cardio equipment. After a few days, you notice, there are no towels or spray bottles to wipe machines down after use. 5.
During the face-to-face interview, one of your hiring committee members asks the candidate who appears to be Muslim whether or not he would have an issue with Christian rock being played over the speaker system at the gym. This would be Client Rights because when in an interview you cannot ask someone their beliefs and or discriminate. In this interview, the interviewer asks the candidate who appears as Muslim if the Christan rock being played will regard in any issue. First, the gym should not be playing any time of religious music. If they want to play music make it cuss free, religion free, and keep it quiet because some people like their own music. Second, the interviewer is assuming race and that can cause law-
suits. They should be given equal rights no matter who they are. 6.
One day while walking through the cardio area, you notice a company folder unattended and on the floor that has information about a recent client who has just gone through exercise, body fat, and other tests. The folder also contains information about the client such as birthday, weight, financial information, etc.
Chapter 18
7.
You are the club director of the Lakepoint Soccer Club and host an annual tournament where you have invited hundreds of teams to take part. For those teams that are participating and live 90 miles or more away from the hosting venue, you are requiring them to stay at the hotel you have designated as the official tournament hotel. For each team that stays, your club receives 25% of the hotel fees.
8.
You are a personal trainer and a client tells you they are wanting to go on a diet. You have been reading and researching the Paleo diet recently and have even been experimenting with it in your own eating. You think it could easily be applied to your client’s goals. You instruct your client to follow the Paleo Diet including telling them about eating specific meals.
