Report
Teach a Friend Report Name : Avery Neeser Who did you teach : My grandma (just specify the relation to you, i.e. – neighbor, friend at work, etc.) Instructions Write your responses to the items below. Make sure to answer each of the questions in your responses. Note that the minimum word count for full credit is 150 words (total of all responses). Your instructor will grade you according to the grading rubric in the assignment in your course. When referencing a passage, include the citation and paste the actual passage into your response. If the passage is long, just cite it and abbreviate or summarize it so the reader knows what the passage is about but it does not take up too many lines on this report. Note - boxes will expand as you type Describe your experience: Provide a thoughtful reflection of your experience. What gospel principle from this week’s lesson did you teach? Include specific quotes or references to scripture or prophetic teachings that you used. How did it go? How did you feel while teaching and afterward? What reaction or feedback did you receive? What teaching methods did you use (thought-provoking questions, discussion, game, object lesson, video, other method)? I taught my grandma Genesis 12 from this week’s reading because I liked all that it shared things about Abraham and what his covenants were. We specifically read “ And the L ORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land : and there builded he an altar unto the L ORD , who appeared unto him.” This went really well! I was kind of worried that it would not just because I wondered how or if my grandma would have argument points with what I was saying but it was very much a civil conversation where I could share my points and she would share hers and we could listen to each other and have a good conversation. I felt really good while teaching it. I get nervous when I am instructing other people or older people just because they are more experienced, I guess and so it is hard for me to do it as much but it would not perfectly and was really well. I felt really good afterwards as well. We talked about it and my grandma said that she thought I did particularly good. Kinda like I just said my grandma said that the conversation was really well and that I did well myself and so she was incredibly grateful for that. Some teaching methods that I used was a discussion and a video. Because it was good to show certain things in video form or different forms that way. Describe the insights you gained: What did you learn from this experience about being a teacher of the gospel? What deeper insights or understanding of the principle(s) being taught did you gain from teaching the principle(s) to another person? From this experience I learned that it is important to go out of your comfort zone and really push yourself to learn the most that you can from what you are teaching. Not only are you teaching somebody else but you are also teaching yourself new concepts. You also are teaching someone else new concepts as well. Being a teacher of the gospel can be hard sometimes because obviously we do not know everything but as long as we study the scriptures and we study what we know then I think pushing ourselves and really pushing our self-passed our certain points really helps us to get there. Deeper understandings that I was able to grasp as teaching and studying and learning these was that Abraham never was trying to be perfect in heavenly father's eyes but he was just trying to do what heavenly father commanded of him so that he could be successful and do well with his covenants. I am not sure if
that makes complete sense but it was easy for me to learn more because I was teaching someone and they were teaching me as well.
