Report
Teach a Friend Report Name : Avery Neeser Who did you teach : Cousin (just specify the relation to you, i.e. – neighbor, friend at work, etc.) Instructions Write your responses to the items below. Make sure to answer each of the questions in your responses. Note that the minimum word count for full credit is 150 words (total of all responses). Your instructor will grade you according to the grading rubric in the assignment in your course. When referencing a passage, include the citation and paste the actual passage into your response. If the passage is long, just cite it and abbreviate or summarize it so the reader knows what the passage is about but it does not take up too many lines on this report. Note - boxes will expand as you type Describe your experience: Provide a thoughtful reflection of your experience. What gospel principle from this week’s lesson did you teach? Include specific quotes or references to scripture or prophetic teachings that you used. How did it go? How did you feel while teaching and afterward? What reaction or feedback did you receive? What teaching methods did you use (thought-provoking questions, discussion, game, object lesson, video, other method)? The experience I had teaching my cousin was really good. It went better than I thought it was going to. The gospel principle from this week's lesson that I taught was the great plan of happiness from Dallin H. Oaks Ensign. October 1993. The biggest thing we really talked about was where he states, “Satan seeks to discredit the savior and define authority to nullify the effects of the atonement to counterfeit revelation, to lead people away from the truth, to contradict individual accountability, to confuse gender, to undermine marriage, and to discourage childbearing especially by parents who will raise their children in righteousness. We talked about this specifically because it is so interesting that this was talked about in 2014 ten years later that issue is 10 times worse and we are dealing with it more now than we really ever have so it was just really interesting for us to talk about considering that being a huge topic in the world right now. I feel really good teaching it and I feel good afterwards because I felt like it was not an argument, it was just a good discussion between us and what we thought was correct. The reaction and feedback that I received from my cousin was very respectful and we agreed I have my thoughts and she definitely has hers but on a lot of things we did not have difference in opinions. The teaching method that I used was a thought-provoking question. I simply asked her “how you think the world would react to this specific clip of this video here” and that is how we got talking about it. Describe the insights you gained: What did you learn from this experience about being a teacher of the gospel? What deeper insights or understanding of the principle(s) being taught did you gain from teaching the principle(s) to another person? I learned from this experience about being a teacher of the gospel is it is hard to not share your own opinion but instead share the truths. I did not go on a mission so teaching others about the gospel is not really hard for me but I do not know how to do it the correct way. When you are teaching the gospel, you cannot really let your emotions or your thoughts/opinions get in the way you just have to teach the truth and teach the gospel. Deeper insights of the principles being taught that I could gain was that we are not living in anybody else's world but Heavenly Father in Jesus Christ. Like I said in the video we made a
choice whether we wanted to follow Satan or follow heavenly father's plan and if you're down here on earth you chose heavenly father's plan but a lot of people don't stick to that once they get down here and that's what I really learned was I had to ask myself the question why wouldn't you want to be a part of this gospel. And then I realized because people do not want to be the good, most people do not want to be that good they would rather judge people and mock people, hurt people, do all of the bad things that Satan would do instead of the good that heavenly father would do. I had to realize that that does not have a reflection on me, but that has a reflection on who they are and what they chose. That is the deeper understanding I got from teaching this week's material.
