Interdisciplinary Nature of College Experience: As I begin this capstone course, I can't help but reflect on what it means to me and how it relates to my academic and professional goals. This journey has given me a wealth of experiences, knowledge, and moral principles that I think will be quite helpful when I tackle the challenges of this course. I have learned the value of interdisciplinary learning, ethics, and transferable skills that go beyond the classroom through this academic and personal journey. I've noticed that drawing from several academic fields improves my problem-solving skills, while a strong ethical foundation drives my actions in both my personal and professional life. The toolbox of transferable skills acquired during my college experience prepares me for a successful career, where the ability to innovate and maintain integrity is highly valued. Interdisciplinary Learning: To me, "interdisciplinary" refers to the ability to draw from a variety of academic disciplines in order to get a comprehensive understanding of complex issues. I discovered that taking classes outside of my major was very helpful for my post-secondary education. I could use my understanding of human behavior from a psychology course, for example, to my professional life when it comes to marketing. The value of learning from different academic disciplines lies in the diversity of perspectives they bring. It encourages you to think more creatively and approach challenges from several perspectives. For example, a sociology course highlighted the importance of societal dynamics on individual choices, which I found useful in understanding consumer behavior. Ethics and Personal Value: During my academic career, I completed an ethics course that stressed the value of moral principles in making decisions. What I remember most is the discussions on moral dilemmas and the role of ethical codes in guiding behavior. Personally, 1
ethics is really important in my life. In both the personal and professional domains, it directs my actions and judgments. In order to preserve trust and integrity, an ethical code is necessary. It will be a cornerstone of my decision-making in my future professional life, because ethical behavior develops long-term credibility. My personal code of ethics has been influenced not just by my schooling, but also by role models and life experiences. It emphasizes values such as honesty, integrity, and social responsibility, which I believe are crucial for a harmonious society and ethical business practices. Preparation for Professional Life: Baker College's courses has provided me with various transferable abilities that will help me move from a student to a professional. These include effective communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and adaptability. These abilities can be used in a variety of professional settings, much like the tools in a toolbox. Leaving college with a toolbox of transferable skills is of utmost importance to me. Employers frequently want people that can not only do specific duties but also adapt to changing work conditions and contribute to the organization's overall performance. This capstone course, with its emphasis on interdisciplinarity and ethics, will be useful to me in the future. I can "sell" my skills to a potential employer by demonstrating how my ability to draw from diverse disciplines allows me to approach problems innovatively. In addition, my solid ethical background ensures that I approach my work with integrity and moral responsibility, both of which are highly recognized in the professional world. By reflecting on these points, I aim to not only understand the significance of this capstone course but also to prepare myself for a successful career and meaningful contributions to society. This journey of self-discovery and growth through interdisciplinary learning and ethical principles will lay the groundwork for my future activities, transforming me into a 2
responsible and capable professional. It is my aspiration to make a positive impact in the communities I engage with, fostering a better, more informed, and ethically sound environment for all. 3
