Internal principles
Christianity influenced the formation of the constitution and American law. American
success as a nation has been based on biblical principles which have enabled it to defend its
values during challenges. However, there is a rise in concerns about the modern legal arguments
around same-sex marriage, abortion, and sexual freedoms. These issues have become prominent
since modern society accepts diverse lifestyles and sexual orientations. Therefore, it is essential
to have a better understanding of legal arguments that individuals have the right to same-gender
marriage, abortion, and sexual liberties founded on man is of divine origin, man has individual
value and the source of individual rights is God not government principles.
The principle Man is of divine origin argues that man was created in Gods image.
Therefore, God has authority over his creation and human beings’ decisions. The principle
indicates that God’s moral law should be followed in society and government laws should not
violate God’s moral law
1
.The principle man has individual values and weaknesses indicating that
people have unique purposes
2
. Therefore, each person has his individuality which should be
praised. While the source of individual rights is God and not government argues that human
rights should be protected. Therefore, God's rights are superior since he is the ultimate authority.
In the modern world, people claim legal rights for same-sex marriage. The legal argument
is that people want the right to many the person they want regardless of gender. Therefore, they
advocate for men-to-men and women-to-women marriage. Supporters of the argument argue that
rejecting same-gender marriage is discrimination against the LGBTQ community and a violation

of the people’s rights in the constitution

. The community argues that they should be given equal
rights and legal protections by the government while advocating for reorganization in the
community.
Based on the man has individual value principle human beings are inherently sinful and
are prone to wickedness and selfishness. Therefore, from the perspective of the principle same-
sex marriage reflects the wickedness of man who is selfish to satisfy their pleasures without
regard to God’s laws. Various biblical passages affirm that marriage is God-ordained and should
be respected. For instance, in Ephesians 5:31-33 “for this reason, a man will leave his father and
mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh”
4
is a verse that indicates
how marriage should function. Therefore, same-sex should not be advocated in society since it
opposes religious beliefs.
Additionally, people claim legal abortion rights. There has been a rise in arguments over
whether women should be granted the legal right to abortion. People advocating for the
implementation of legal rights claim that people have the right to their bodies
5
. Therefore,
women should be granted the right to terminate a pregnancy since it is their own body, and have
the personal right to safe abortion.
Based on the source of individual rights is God not government principles. God is the
ultimate authority and sovereign over everything. Hence, according to the principle, any actions
and laws that repel God's commandment should be condoned
6
. Consequently, abortion is the

international killing of a child it violates God's commandment and right to live. Hence, women
should not be granted legal rights to terminate the pregnancy since it is inherently wrong and
opposes God’s will and any law which supports abortion is illegitimate. The Bible condemns
abortion “Thou shalt not kill” Exodus 20:13 and Psalms 139:13-16 which state that it is God who
creates the unborn child in the womb
7
. Therefore, abortion should be condemned in society since
it opposes God’s commandment of “Thou shalt not kill”.
Finally, people claim for sexual freedoms to satisfy their sexual pressures. The legal
argument on the matter is that individuals have the right to engage in any sexual desire without
any consequences from the government
8
. The advocates of the movement argue that people have
different personal autonomy which should not be regulated as long as it does not pose harm to
society.
However, man is of divine origin principle suggests the protection of aspects of sentient
life that are holy. The principle suggests that the government should be able to protect people
while safeguarding the aspects of sentient life
9
. therefore, the government should be able to able
to restrict unholy practices in society such as sexual freedom. The Bible affirms that God forbids
sexual immorality such as fornication, bestiality, and adultery. For instance, Exodus 20:14

. Hence certain sexual practices are immoral and violate
God’s laws and the government should not legitimize such immorality.
In brief, the Bible provides a basis for opposing abortion, sexual freedoms, and same-sex
marriage since they violate God’s moral law. Therefore, although people claim same-sex
marriage rights they should not be granted since marriage is God-ordained and should be
respected. Also, abortion should be condemned since it violates God’s moral law by intentionally
killing. God also forbids sexual immorality and sexual freedom should not be advocated for in
society.
