Asthma The 14-year-old presents to the clinic with asthma which as chronic disease among children. It causes the narrowing and inflammation of the small airways in the lungs and therefore causing asthma symptoms which include; shortness of breath, cough, chest tightness and wheeze. The most common triggers of the asthma include; smoke fumes, strong soaps and perfume, infections such as colds and weather changes (World Health Organization, 2022). The management of the disease mainly involves the use of medications in addition to lifestyle modifications. For the case of the patient, it is vital to educate him on the need to utilize the use of salbutamol during any asthma attack to prevent complications. The most commonly used medication for asthma is bronchodilators such as salbutamol and steroids such as beclomethasone. The bronchodilator inhalers work by relieving the symptoms and opening the air passages while the steroids reduce the inflammation that is present in the air passages (Hashmi et al., 2022). It is also vital to administer anti-viral medications to treat the patient symptoms of flu because it is the major exacerbating factor for the asthma symptoms because other students have it at school. In cases where the child has any allergies, anti-histamines should be administered to prevent running nose, watery eyes and sneezing There is also need to educate the patient concerning the various conservative measures that can play a role in relieving the symptoms. Environmental control is very essential and there is need for the patient to avoid various allergens because it is related with improved quality of life (Hashmi et al., 2022). In cases where the patient is obese, it is vital to educate them about the need for weight reduced because it leads to improved control. Other common measures include; wearing of masks, avoiding smoking and following up.
