Setting Indoor play using the Block Play area. Materials, table chair, blocks,
Observation Ali spent the morning at block area. He took some blocks from the shelf and put them onto the table.
"I'm making a tower" he said. He took a block and stood it up on the table. Then he slowly added more blocks on top of it. "Just like a castle" he said. At the top of the tower he put a cone shaped block. "All finished - my tower for a king" he said. Ali pushed the blocks and they all came tumbling down. "Got to start again" he said. Once again, Ali chose a few blocks and stacked them on top of each other. "Now I made a lighthouse for the boats" Ali explained.
What skills did the child use to explore?
During this experience Ali is able to use solving problems skills related to construction, he is able to predict cause and affect relationships and also make a sequence using the blocks. Ali is able to classify and sort the blocks by size, shape and function throughout this activity.

Game: Rainbow Bears
Childs age: 2 years old
How the game was set up:
On the white piece of paper, I drew a rainbow using a different coloured marker matching the coloured bears. I then asked the child to match the bears on the lines drawn on the paper.
How did the child respond eg:
At first the child looked confused and just sat there looking at the picture, I then demonstrated how to do it, after helping her out she was able to pick the bears from the container and place them herself. At the third attempt to help the child she was able to respond “I do it myself”, How did you respond to the child?
I first modelled for the child by demonstrating what to do in this activity after I had explained the steps of the game. I then encouraged the child to try it on their own and also assisted the child, I gave space for the child to do it themselves.
How did the experience support the childs skill development
strengthening small hand muscles
learning their colours
follow instructions
hand preference
