AEROSPACE 305W RC Helicopter Experiment Simple vs. Detailed LabView Acquired Data Assignment Prompt: “Please send me one technical memo from your group that documents the experiments conducted during lab to determine the small RC helicopter performance. In addition, compare your results in your memo to the “simple” experiment conducted in February 2021.” As a group, you have been asked to measure the lift force and rotational rotor speed of a small RC helicopter, while varying the input power. During lab, you will collect, and process detailed voltage data acquired by LabView, and use it to calculate lift force, rpm, torque, and power. You will then compare your processed data to the data collected in February 2021 that is provided on CANVAS in the PPT file named “Simple Helicopter Experiment”. Experiment design considerations: The following questions should help guide you with writing the “introduction” and “discussion” of this experiment. How useful was the "simple" data compared to the LabView acquired data? Was it possible to measure all quantities simultaneously using the "simple" tools? What is the input power and control used during each experiment? What is the observed repeatability between ALL experimental data? Are there any physical effects that have been unaccounted for in these experiments? Documentation: Your group memo should include at least the following information. Memo header and memo section headings described in the “writing” lectures. Complete wiring diagram of the experimental apparatus. A photograph of your experimental apparatus. A short description of the procedures and working principle of your apparatus. Graphs demonstrating the relationship between Lift, RPM, Torque, and Input Power Discuss the differences between the "simple" and LabView acquired data. Be careful to use the same units when reporting the various sets of data. Comparisons should be made by overlaying multiple sets of data on each graph. As for the parachute memo, report uncertainty and % error information in your “Conclusions” and show your work for these calculations in your “Appendix”.
