Customer Concern Before starting we wear protective eyewear and gloves before I start removing the Drive shaft
I mark the driveshaft orientation so that it can help me put it back the way it was supposed to be and avoid driveline
vibrations once the driveshaft is reinstalled.
Next procedure is I removed the driveshaft bolts using 13mm good quality spanner to avoid stripping because these
are heavy duty bolts and if I use low quality tools it might strip
I used a rubber mallet to gently strike the driveshaft at the yoke to disconnect it to the differential flange. I asked one of my classmates to hold the driveshaft while I remove the 2 centre support mounting bolts. I also used masking tape to wrap around the u joint cups so it won’t fall off and then released the cup needle bearing
Before pulling out the driveshaft I have placed a catch basin so that if fluid leaks from the transmission tail housing seal. It is also great opportunity to replace it if it is leaking
I used both hands to gently slide the driveshaft out of the transmission transfer case. Then, I checked the U joints to
check if moves in smooth motion and no rough spots or play in any direction
Before I re-assemble the driveshaft I put some small amount of grease to the yoke to lubricate the output shaft seal in the transmission or transfer case
Installed the yoke gently to the transfer case then put Loctite and reinstall bolts To finish the process I tighten the Document Name:

Ensure that any reusable materials are stored away appropriately and ready for reuse at another time.
d.
Make sure the work area is cleaned and tidy. All equipment is put away and report on any issues / faults with equipment when problems are noticed.

QUESTION 2
A company needs to choose one supplier for a particular type of silicon wafer used'in the production of
semiconductors. The company has three options. Supplier A sells the silicon wafers for $2.50 per wafer,
independently of the number of wafers ordered. Supplier B sells the wafers for $2.40 each but does not
consider an order for less than 2,000 wafers. Supplier C sells the wafers for $2.30 each but does not accept
an order for less than 3,000 wafers. Assume an order setup cost of $100 and an annual requirement of 20,000
wafers. Assume a 20% annual interest rate for holding cost calculations.
a. Which supplier should be chosen to minimize the total annual cost for the wafers, and what is the
optimal order quantity?
b. If the replenishment lead time for wafers…

Attempt 1
Q1/ Design a thin cylindrical pressure tank (pressure vessel) with hemispherical ends to the
automotive industry, shown in figure I below. Design for an infinite life by finding the
appropriate thickness of the vessel to carry a sinusoidal pressure varied from {(-0.1) to (6) Mpa}.
The vessel is made from Stainless Steel Alloy-Type 316 sheet annealed. The operating
temperature is 80 C° and the dimeter of the cylinder is 36 cm. use a safety factor of 1.8.

Question 2
You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the…

Case Study – The New Engineer
Jeff was just hired by GSI, Inc. to be their Environmental and Safety Coordinator. This is Jeff's first position after completing his engineering degree. He had taken a course in safety engineering as part of his studies and felt confident that he could handle the job.
Management at GSI, Inc. has assured him that they are committed to maintaining a safe workplace. They have never had an individual dedicated to this task full-time. They will implement his recommendations if he can justify them.
As Jeff begins to get familiar with the operations, he spends considerable time on the production floor. He notices workers clean their tools before break with a liquid from an unmarked 55-gallon drum. They also use this liquid to clean residue from their skin. They use paper towels to dry their tools and hands, throw these towels in the trash, and head to the break room for a snack and/or smoke.
In talking with the workers, Jeff learns of some of…
