SFL 102 Introduction to Interiors
Design Notebook 1: Field Observation
Objectives:
Raise your awareness of “behaviors, feelings, and perceptions” of interior spaces through observation.
Description:
Select a residential space (such as a kitchen or living room) that you are not
familiar with. Observe how people use the place and act in the space. Specifically note the human behavior that is guided by entrances, furniture, art, and architectural features such as fireplaces, counters, windows, etc. Use this sheet. Limit your answers to the space available below.
1.
What space did you observe?
I observed my friend Jessi’s kitchen in her new apartment that she recently moved in to.
2.
How does the interior space planning (arrangement of the space) influence how people use the space?
The space was well arranged and functioned to make a useable kitchen. The entrance was to the side and led to an open area, and the decorations were minimal but brought a “homey” feeling to the space. The counters were kept mostly clear, with a few essential appliances such as a toaster and a microwave in places that allowed them to be used easily but did not make the area feel cluttered.
3.
How does the decoration in the space influence human choices and actions?
The decorations influence human choices and actions because they are in a very minimalistic style, which allows the people visiting the apartment to not be distracted or overwhelmed by the decoration choices, and instead focus on other things. They also influence human actions because they are very small and out of the way, which allows the room as a whole to feel cohesive and not overwhelming.
4.
What were your feelings and perceptions about these spaces?
I enjoyed the feelings in this space. It felt comfortable and familiar, even though I had never been there before. I also perceived that this space was an organized and clean one, which helped to emphasize the positive feelings that I felt in the room.

On this engineering problem, I need help with parts b) and c). Also, this is the complete problem and not a writing assignment. Make sure for this problem you list the following:
a. Known: State briefly what is known about the problem.
b. Schematic: Draw a schematic of the physical system or control volume.
c. Assumptions: List all necessary assumptions used to complete the problem.
d. Properties: Identify the source of property values not given to you in the problem.
e. Find: State what must be found.
f. Analysis: Start your analysis with any necessary equations. Develop your analysis as completely as possible before inserting values and performing the calculations. Draw a box around your answers and include units and follow an appropriate number of significant figures.

Problem 1: You are working in a consulting company that does a lot of hand calculations for designs in
Aerospace Industry for mechanical, thermal, and fluidic systems. You took the Virtual engineering
course, and you want to convince your boss and the team you work to move to modelling and simulation
in computers using a certain software (Ansys, Abaqus, etc). Discuss the benefits and pitfalls of computer
based models used within an industrial environment to solve problems in engineering.

Directions: Use the appropriate equation to answer the following questions. All answers
should be recorded below or in your engineering design journal. Remember to show all work.
1. A lever has an effort arm that is 8 meters long and the resistance (load) arm that is
5 meters long, how much effort is needed to lift a 200 Newton weight?

Content Covered:
- Method of Sections
Direction: Create two problems based on the topic "Method of Sections" and then solve them with a complete solution. In return, I will give you a good rating. Thank you so much!
Note: Please bear in mind to create two problems based on the topic "Method of Sections." Be careful with the calculations in the problem. Kindly double check the solution and answer if there is a deficiency. And also, box the final answer. Thank you so much!

Quality has been defined as customer satisfaction (or "fitness for use"). Quality can also be defined as "conformance to specifications". In theory, if you create the right specifications and then manufacture a product that meets these specifications, you should achieve customer satisfaction.
Consider the following four scenarios for a particular product:
A) Conforms to specifications and is competitive in its adequacy.
B) Conforms to specifications and is not competitive in its suitability.
C) It does not conform to specifications and is competitive in its education.
D) Does not conform to specifications and is not competitive in its education.
Which of these are not, in theory, feasible, but in practice occur and cause a lot of conceptual confusion?
Can you cite some examples?

TEQ assessment (4.1) Design a question to calculate the cooling load for the building you selected for
You will define at least FOUR types of heat gain in that building (or the floor you
are working on or you are familiar with). The indoor temperature is set as 75 F, and you
can assume the outdoor temperature based on the location of your building in the
summer and any other numbers needed to resolve this question.
(4.2) Calculate the corresponding cooling load for the question you designed above.
For all the details as well as the final answer that this question is asking for, clearly
indicate the unit for each piece of information. In a word, you will design a question for
your building about cooling load calculation. Assumptions and/or supporting
drawings/figures/tables are allowed and encouraged. You can decide the level of detail
for this question, e.g., the more details and the more accurate information, the more
accurate and realistic your…

Task 1
You are employed as a mechanical engineer within an unnamed research center, specializing in the
development of innovative air conditioning systems. Your division is tasked with providing computer-based
modeling and design solutions using computational fluid dynamics through ANSYS software. Your primary
responsibilities involve the analysis of horizontal channel dynamics to meet specific criteria. Under the
guidance of your immediate supervisor, you have been assigned unique responsibilities within an ongoing
project. As a member of the research team, your role includes constructing an appropriate model and
executing a sequence of simulation iterations to explore and enhance channel performance. Figure 1
provides a visualization of the horizontal channel under consideration. Consider 2D, incompressible, steady
flow in a horizontal channel at a Reynolds number of 150. The schematic below illustrates the channel flow,
not drawn to scale. For simplicity, neglect gravity. The…

XYZ Company Ltd has consulted your firm Zig-Zag Energy over an intention to generate electricity in Ghana. Being the senior project engineer for Zig-Zag Energy, management has asked you to prepare a detailed technical report in respect to the project.
a) Discuss the major factors to take into consideration when consulting on such projects.
A tank containing air is stirred by a paddle wheel.
The work input to the paddle wheels is 2000KJ and the heat transferred to the surrounding from the tank is 6000KJ.
b) Determine the change in the internal energy of the system
There has been a sharp differences between the board of Blue-Blue Energy over which of the energy sources (hydroelectric power plant-HEP and Coal fired plant) is best for power generation. As an energy expert, you were confronted by the debating faction for your opinion. You…
