Week 4 Discussion
Please read "Case 14: Assessing the value and impact of CPOE" on page 502-504 of the textbook
and discuss either question 1 or question 3 at the end of the case. You only need to pick one of
the two questions to discuss and please include the question number in your post. You can
comment on any posts, not limited to those discussing the same question as you did.
1. Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) is a system that allows healthcare providers to
submit and transfer orders electronically rather than through traditional methods, such as mail or
fax. The ultimate purpose of utilizing a CPOE system is to improve efficiency by reducing
errors, and therefore optimize patient outcomes. According to the article above, the University
Health Care System is interested in implementing a CPOE system into their electronic health
record (EHR) project. In short, their goal in doing this is to "improve quality outcomes and
reduce variation in practice." In order to evaluate the CPOE implementation process at the
University Health Care System, a survey can be taken amongst all the staff members who utilize
the system. The survey can gauge how the users feel about the system. For example, whether
they find it to be more efficient than burdensome, and if they feel as though it is contributing to
better patient outcomes. Similarly, a survey can be taken amongst the patients. They can
elaborate on whether they feel they had efficient service, as well as if they felt their experience at
the hospital ran efficiently. Once the surveys have been collected, hospital administrators, along
with the IT department, should analyze the surveys to see where improvements can be made and
what is working well.
3. Assume you are to lead the evaluation component of this project. You have reviewed the goals
for the project. What process would you use to develop a plan for assessing the value of CPOE?
Who would be involved? What roles would they play? How would you decide on the best
metrics to use? What baseline data would you want to collect or review?
In term of developing a plan for assessing the value of the CPOE, there are few steps I would
like to conduct. First, I would like to get feedback from staffs and patients through questionnaires
or face-to-face communications. After this process, I will get the feedback from staffs and
patients and be able to determine the problems in the CPOE system. Second, after determining
the problems in the CPOE system, I would meet and communicate with information technology
professionals to see how we can improve the effectiveness of the CPOE system. In addition, the
provided article in the blackboard showed that the University Health Care System staffs attended
user-group workshops and stopped by other facilities that used CPOE system. Since the
University Health Care System staffs have done that, I would encourage the University Health
Care System staffs to use the important information they saw from other facilities to their current
system. From the important information, the University Health Care System staffs can
understand how does the system works, what works well, and how to avoid problems when they
use CPOE system. This important information and the questionnaires from the staffs and patients
would provide a basic understanding of the CPOE system.

Case Study – The New Engineer
Jeff was just hired by GSI, Inc. to be their Environmental and Safety Coordinator. This is Jeff's first position after completing his engineering degree. He had taken a course in safety engineering as part of his studies and felt confident that he could handle the job.
Management at GSI, Inc. has assured him that they are committed to maintaining a safe workplace. They have never had an individual dedicated to this task full-time. They will implement his recommendations if he can justify them.
As Jeff begins to get familiar with the operations, he spends considerable time on the production floor. He notices workers clean their tools before break with a liquid from an unmarked 55-gallon drum. They also use this liquid to clean residue from their skin. They use paper towels to dry their tools and hands, throw these towels in the trash, and head to the break room for a snack and/or smoke.
In talking with the workers, Jeff learns of some of…

This is an engineering problem and not a writing assignment. Please Do Not Reject. I had other engineering tutors on bartleby help me with problems similar to this one.
This problem must be presented in a logical order showing the necessary steps used to arrive at an answer. Each homework problem should have the following items unless otherwise stated in the problem:
a. Known: State briefly what is known about the problem.
b. Schematic: Draw a schematic of the physical system or control volume.
c. Assumptions: List all necessary assumptions used to complete the problem.
d. Properties: Identify the source of property values not given to you in the problem. Most sources will be from a table in the textbook (i.e. Table A-4).
e. Find: State what must be found.
f. Analysis: Start your analysis with any necessary equations. Develop your analysis as completely as possible before inserting values and performing the calculations. Draw a box around your answers and include units and follow an…

Question 2
You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the…

Case Study: Paula’s Pain
Paula has worked for Brindle Corporation for 3 years. During this time, she has worked as a machine operator/cell leader in various work cells. Recently, the plant went to mandatory 12-hour shifts and plans to remain on this schedule for several months.
Paula’s present work cell is manufacturing 3-inch diameter exhaust tubes that are made from stainless steel. These tubes get a hole punched in them, a flange welded on, and burrs ground off. The pipe then gets placed into a gage to check that it was made correctly. (The tubes weigh about six pounds.)
Paula has been performing the welding operation. She leans into the machine and loads the part into a fixture then positions the flange. Both pieces are clamped (using hand clamps) into position and the machine is cycled by depressing two palm buttons.
The gaging operation requires placing the finished part into the gage and clamping it (using hand clamps) into place. A pin is depressed to verify the position…

I have two parts that need to be answered (Multiple Choice). If you can not answer both parts, please leave it for another tutor to answer. Thank you.
On the left side view of this print, there is a horizontal, straight-line segment that does not connect to other lines. In basic terms, explain why. (Multiple Choice)A: It represents a rounded edge and is there to help clarify the view, even though no sharp edge exists.B: It represents a straight edge that can't be seen in other views.C: It's a drafting mistake and should not be there.D: It represents a locating edge on the part and must be there to establish a primary plane for the inspection setup.
This print does not show a cutting-plane line. Is this acceptable practice or an error? (Multiple Choice)A: AcceptableB: Error
