AE433 Fall 2023 GasTurb Homework 3 (50 Points Total) Assigned: 11/15/2022 Due: Add homework solution to your Overleaf Report and submit the complete report on December 1 st , 2023. Consider a Turbojet engine. Select Turbojet from the GasTurb main window and click Standard Maps under the Off Design tab on the left side of the window. Load the Demo_jet.CYF input file when prompted. When the Off Design Input window opens, set Calculation Mode to T4 and set Burner Temperature to 1400 K. 1) (15 points) Select Operating Line from the Task box. Run the calculation. Create an operating line on the compressor map using 20 points with the other options left as default. Add the operating line plot to your report. Notice that at low spindle speeds, there is a risk of compressor surge. 2) (20 points) Now, add a handling bleed in the Controls section of the Off Design Input window. Set the max handling bleed to 30% (0.3), closed above 𝑁𝑁 / √𝑇𝑇 = 0.65 , and open below 𝑁𝑁 / √𝑇𝑇 = 0.5 . Click OK, then click No in the “Switch Automatic Bleed On” prompt. Run the calculation again. This time, plot two operating lines (with bleed and without bleed). Plot the handling bleed as a function of relative corrected spool speed for both cases (no bleed and with bleed). On a separate plot, graph the specific fuel consumption vs relative corrected spool speed. Does including a handling bleed increase or decrease the specific fuel consumption? 3) (15 Points) Plot Surge Margin vs. Spool Speed [RPM] . The plot should have two lines. Add this plot to your report. Using the Details tool, what is the lowest Spool Speed for the reference case that has a positive Surge Margin ?
