Filename: Pathology assignment_zID (example: Pathology assignment_z3001234.pdf) Feedback Details: You will receive general feedback on your outline during a tutorial, and structured peer-feedback on your draft. Marks and individual feedback will be provided within 10 working days. Aligned CLOs: 1, 2 & 3. Assessment Description Rationale The Pathology assignment assesses awareness of pathological processes, the roles of scientific literature in medical/scientific research and education, and the ability to utilise and cite scientific literature at an academic standard. Reflective practice will also be assessed. Task description You will choose a disease of interest that is relevant to one of the pathological processes studied in this course: 1. acute inflammation 2. chronic inflammation 3. atherosclerosis, thrombosis, embolism & infarction (vascular disease) 4. disordered growth (including neoplasia) You will prepare a patient information leaflet that outlines key information about the selected disease including causes/risk factors, pathogenesis, signs/symptoms, diagnosis/treatment, and outcomes/complications. The leaflet should utilise and cite appropriate medical/scientific literature at an academic standard. You will also develop a brief questionnaire that aims to evaluate risk factors for development of the disease and undertake a critical evaluation of the work submitted by one of your peers.
The leaflet will be an A4 trifold page (6 columns), with approximately 500 words (needs to be clear and concise). In addition, you will provide a written reflection (approximately 200 words) on one aspect of the task that you found challenging, or response to peer feedback on the assignment draft. Submission details The task will involve a developmental process, with an outline due early in the term, a draft for peer- review due mid-term and the completed task (with reflection) due towards the end of the term. Outline due: Friday 6 th October (submit completed assignment template via Moodle) Draft for peer review: Friday 27 th October 5pm (submit draft for peer review via Moodle) o Peer review to be completed (Moodle) by Monday 30th October, 5pm. Final submission: Friday 3 rd November 5pm (submit via Moodle). Please note: Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence – such as ChatGPT – in the Pathology assignment PLANNING ASSISTANCE As this assessment task involves some planning or creative processes, you are permitted to use software to generate initial ideas. However, you must develop or edit those ideas to such a significant extent that what is submitted is your own work, i.e. only occasional AI generated words or phrases may form part of your final submission. If generative AI is used, you must keep copies of the initial prompts to show your lecturer if there is any uncertainty about the originality of your work. If the outputs of generative AI such as ChatGPT form a part of your submission, it will be regarded as serious academic misconduct and subject to the standard penalties, which may include 00FL, suspension and exclusion. Resources An outline template and a marking rubric will be provided on Moodle in week 2. Assessment Marks will be awarded based on completion of the following tasks and on achievement against the criteria in the marking rubric: Awarded for on-time submission of an outline (5%) Awarded for submission of a draft assignment (5%) For completing evaluation (feedback sheet with comments) of work submitted by a peer (5%) Tutor mark on completed task (85%)
