MEMO TO: HIM Director FROM: Laura, Coding Manager DATE: October 13, 2023 SUBJECT: Recruitment Plan The following recruitment plan was developed after consultation with the HR department. Recruitment methods for selection of qualified candidates for the coding positions: 1. Posting the job internally within the organization for employees interested in expanding their skillset and advancing career opportunities. Qualified candidates should refer to the coding manager for an interview. List for 2 weeks. 2. List the available coding positions with LinkedIn, Indeed, and Zip Recruiter to expand the talent pool for individuals with specific qualifications or skills fit for the coding positions making it easier to filter out unqualified job seekers saving valuable time. 3. Have a job fair at the local college to meet with soon to be graduates or other interested candidates. Having a job fair will attract healthcare professionals and college students. Medical Coding Specialist Responsibilities: The Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing a patient’s medical record and translating that information into diagnostic and procedural codes that are used for reimbursement and reporting purposes. Extract relevant information related to the records of patients. Verify assigned medical codes and ensure optimal reimbursement in a timely manner. Validates medical documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Ensuring no information is missing from the medical records. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for the position. Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations. Qualifications: Requires ability to stand and move around occasionally. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and complete Tuberculosis screening. The qualified candidate must have completed a Medical Coding and/or Health Information Technician Program or have at least two years of coding-related experience in a Medical Clinic setting. Preference may be given to candidates with certification as one of the following: CPC (Certified Professional Coder), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder), CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder), CENTC (Certified Ear, Nose, and Throat Coder), or CEMC (Certified Evaluation and Management Coder). Must also have working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, strong computer skills and expertise in medical terminology, ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS II. Strong knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology. Proficient in medical billing software and electronic health record systems. Excellent communication skills to interact with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and health care providers. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively. Job Summary: The Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing a patient’s medical record and translating that information into diagnostic and procedural codes that are used for reimbursement and reporting purposes. This position is responsible for upholding the Core Values, including integrity, respect, patient-centered care, innovation, teamwork, open communication, and accountability in their daily work. Hours: Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Interview questions: 1. What would you do if the physician’s documentation did not support the assigned code?
2. Can you describe a time you were not able to meet a deadline, how did you handle it? 3. Can you describe a time you had a conflict with a co-worker and how did you resolve it? 4. How do you handle a call with someone upset about a scheduling error? 5. What steps do you take to keep up to date with guidelines and coding changes? 6. Can you tell me about your experience with billing software and electronic health record systems? 7. Do you have experience with excel spreadsheets? 8.
