Module 3 Conduct the Developmental Spelling Inventory with your students (one period if secondary). You can choose the PSI or USI inventory based on your classroom needs. After scoring, review the results from your feature guide and present the results in a table format – grouping by developmental stages. Provide a short narrative on the results – were they what you expected? What surprised you? What steps are you going to take next? I assessed both my daughter’s. For my youngest, I used the Words Their Way Primary. I choose this one because when I did the Elementary one, she struggled a lot. She is an ASD student with and IEP plan and I wanted to dig deeper on what she knew. On the Words Spelled Correctly, she received 15/26 and on Feature Points she received 35/56. Based on this assessment I would say that she is middle on letter names, and early within word patterns. I was not surprised because she does have a learning disability and is on a first-grade reading level based on both I-Ready and NWEA. My next steps would be to work on high frequency words for second grade. I would use words with blends, Digraphs and long vowel patterns.
