Includes Parts: AT2a – Beam Design AT2b – Column Design AT2c – Design Report LYONS College 2023 Trainer: Mike Slater AT2: DETAILED DESIGN RIICWD533E Prepare detailed design of civil concrete structures Issue Date: 23/11/2023 Due Date: 08/12/2023 *Late submissions only with formal extension request no less than 2 days prior to due date* NAME: ___________________________ STUDENT ID:_______________________ SUBMISSION DATE: _________________
Student Instructions: - You must complete all sections of this assessment task to gain a satisfactory grade. - If you feel there is information missing for you to complete the task, you must clarify this with your trainer. Assumptions, even if clearly stated, may result in you having to redo the section. - At the hold points you are required to obtain a sign-off from a colleague. As this is a simulated project you are to ask another student in the cohort for this subject to check and sign-off on your work. If you can’t get a student to do this, you should ask your trainer. - It is expected that you will refer to codes, standards, and other regulatory documents. Where this is done you must include these documents in your bibliography. PLAGIARISM: Plagiarism is when you submit someone else’s work as your own. This could include an online resource, a book, a report, or the work of another student. You can eliminate the first three by supplying correct referencing. If, however, you are found to have copied or used work done by another student, then you will receive an instant fail grade for the assessment, and may have to repeat the subject. Collaboration is encouraged, but you should be very wary of allowing others to take a digital or hardcopy of your work as you may be implicated in the case of plagiarism.

AT2c – Design Report c.1 Design Compliance There are two main sources that govern the procedures for concrete design. What are these sources, and how do they interact with each other to dictate compliant design processes? Include the links and/or locations you would access these documents. (apprx 100 words) c.2 Site Advice When issuing plans for construction, you must advise on risk and quality requirements for your design. Detail below requirements for your design, ensuring you include whether the components are to be cast on site or precast and delivered, the mass of any members that require cranage, and what quality testing needs to be carried out on site for the concrete and steel for members to be cast in-situ.
c.3 Risk Assessment Create a project risk assessment matrix. Note that this may include WHS risks, but should be focused on the project risks such as access, availability, and risks to the quality requirements you’ve covered in C.2. c.4 Engineering Surveys Research ‘as-built’ surveys: What are they? What are they for? Find and provide a link to a contractor who could carry out these surveys in Melbourne. c.5 Geotechnical Information Before designing foundations and concrete footings, the ground conditions must be investigated. Describe the process for assessing the ground conditions, and list three possible sub-surface ground types that might be present. Find and provide a link to a contractor who could carry out this type of investigation. If the ground was found to consist mostly of expansive clay, what affect might this have on the footings if not designed properly?
c.6 Hydrological and Meteorological Information What effects would changes in the hydrological situation have on the construction of concrete structures? What meteorological situations effect the ability to pour concrete? c.7 Concrete Testing Name and describe two types of testing that are carried out on concrete being cast on site. After how many days does concrete reach its nominal strength? Concrete should be kept moist or wet during the curing process. Explain why, making sure you explain what can happen if the concrete is not kept moist or wet during curing. c.8 Selecting design options When assessing multiple options for design, what are three important considerations (not including cost) that should be made in relation to construction (one for precast and one for pouring in-situ) and optimizing project outcomes (one)? c.9 Cultural and Heritage data Locate a news article on an issue that arose due to construction on a culturally significant site. Detail the following: - Overview of the issue - Location - What was the outcome? Access the Victorian Heritage Overlay Guidelines HERE . In your own words, summarise the requirements for the design of new buildings.
