1 Professional Assignment 1 Carlota Pereira Westcliff University MKT 401: Social Media Strategy Professor Mendola January 28, 2023
2 Professional Assignment 1 Regulating social media strategies ensures that the firms have responsible, ethical, and transparent practices. This helps companies maintain their integrity and how they engage on social media platforms. It is also important for companies to have a global perspective and reach different cultures and regions, with this they will have a more inclusive regulation and will address international variations and challenges. These regulations are very important for the users’ privacy. The companies that are going to be talked about are Coca-Cola, Indeed, Apple, Instagram, and Tesla. Coca-Cola uses its social media to create creative marketing, they always have new and different ideas that make their audience stay. Indeed uses social media to consolidate jobs that people are looking for online. Apple used the iPhone to put all the communication systems together in one singular device. Instagram made influencers go viral by using visuals and telling stories. Lastly, Tesla changed the automotive industry by using their social media and digital platforms for marketing updates. Coca-Cola has strict social media regulations, they do not market their products to children under the age of 13. They like to state that they have responsible marketing and they respect the parents and caregivers by not marketing their products for children under the age of 13 (Company, 2022). Indeed promotes that they have employers regulate how the employees present themselves so that no company is disrespected. This is also so that they can present themselves and the company values without any negative comments (Employers, 2022). Apple on the other hand does not use social media as much for traditional marketing and advertising of their products. They use social media more as a way of connecting and engaging with their audience, and to provide customer service when customers have a problem and need it fixed or
3 just so that the customer has a way of communicating with them without being in the store (Urrutia, 2023). Instagram changed its community guidelines after COVID-19 to ensure that nothing that has been or was published will not have real harm to the world. Their community guidelines say that people can only publish videos or photos that they have taken or that they have the right to. This is to ensure that people are protected people and their intellectual property rights (Instagram, 2020). Lastly, Tesla uses social media as its first and major marketing tool, this allows them to get known worldwide and to educate people in what their mission is. This way tesla can provide its audience with updates, news, launches, and much more with a click (Armstrong, 2023). Even though all these companies are different and have different goals, they all should have similar regulations, one being transparency and accountability. All companies should be transparent about their guidelines, they should also disclose all their partnerships so that there is transparency about it. They should all also have a good user privacy system, making sure that the client/customer/user has their data safe and protected is something that helps and brings more clients/customers/users. Lastly, international collaboration is also important, with this all companies will be able to have a closer international collaboration. This will make them known globally and transcend national borders. To conclude, all these companies, Coca-Cola, Indeed, Apple, Instagram, and Tesla, are different and they all use social media in different ways. Besides that, they should all have certain guidelines that apply to all, guidelines such as user privacy systems, transparency and accountability, and international collaboration. These are things that all companies should have or implement in their social media strategies and guidelines.
