The first key course takeaway that resonates with me is the degree of how important sustainability is for a company’s brand. Consumers’ benevolent, competitive, and overall trust slightly increases when a corporation is involved with sustainability practices (Milman, 2023). It has made me have a better appreciation for the sustainability practices my own company embodies, and that I need to spend more time promoting these practices to potential and current customers. Our customers will likely have a bigger appreciation for the company and think of it over others. The second takeaway is learning the impact that traditional marketing still has on consumers. It has made me look at the mail, TV commercials, and billboards on the road in a whole new light and appreciation. My company can gain quite a bit of value through utilizing these older marketing methods rather than focusing on the digital methods only. The final takeaway that resonates with me is learning about SMART objectives and how effective they can be. I will personally start working to use these SMART objectives when working with my suppliers. By ensuring our objectives with suppliers align with the SMART framework, I think we will be able to work smarter toward our goals and expectations. When thinking of attributes of an effective leader, personal brand traits that stand out to me are authenticity, strength, and knowledge. I believe these traits are essential in leadership. Authenticity because people want to follow someone who has a strong sense of values and stands by those. Strength because people will need a leader who can help and guide them in tough circumstances. Knowledge because people need their leader to have a good understanding of the business so he or she can help the employees to better their careers and subsequently continue to better the company. My desired personal brand is not very different from the attributes that I think of in an effective leader. I strive to be authentic, strong, and knowledgeable in the commodity that I manage. I also work hard to ensure communication between myself and the different business units. Without this communication, our strategy with our suppliers across the different plants would be ineffective and could result in potentially multiple issues. Being a lifelong learner can help to reach this personal brand because by continuing to be open to new ideas, I will expand my knowledge and strength. Being open to learning will likely improve my relationships with the business units which will in turn improve our communication as well.
