Case Study #2 Globalization of Fashion I. Abstract The fashion industry has witnessed substantial changes since the start of the globalization movement. Fashion and globalization are closely related to one another. The spread of fashion from one nation to the rest of the world has been greatly aided by globalization. Fashion has been very important since it increases people's self-confidence. People that have good fashion sense tend to be optimistic and open-minded. The learning objectives for this paper are to examine the historical background of globalization and make connections between the fashion industry and the industrial revolutions, to analyze the connection between the expansion of consumer fashion patterns and the world's economic environment and finally to evaluate the connection between the growth of global technology and equipment and the diversity of fashion designs. II. Introduction The globalization process has had a considerable influence on the fashion business. One of its most remarkable results is undoubtedly the industry's explosive growth (Beatty, 2015). The fashion business is now more receptive to a wide range of new trends, influences, and production techniques thanks to globalization. As a result, people may now more easily access global fashion trends. Thus, the transmission of fashion trends as well as the production of apparel have been impacted by globalization. Although there are numerous sides to the relationship between globalization and fashion, not all of them are positive (Ledezma, 2017). In this proposal, I will examine the evolution of fast fashion and its effects on the fashion industry as a result of globalization.
Background to the Study The phenomenon of globalization has recently spread throughout the world. It has been accelerated by factors like the World Trade Organization (WTO), which has led to an expansion in regional economic trading blocs, opened up trade marketplaces, and quick technical advancements (Elie, 2010). The WTO has had a significant impact on international trade activities, such as the removal of trade restrictions and tariffs and the blending of cultures through interaction in the shared markets (Nicokid, 2007). The institutional features of modernity have been distributed across all cultures thanks to globalization (Tomlinson, 2003). Additionally, technology has facilitated international trade and opened up markets, increasing customers' access to international fashion trends. Being a consumer-driven sector, the global apparel market has seen a shift in local designers working with international designers, which has led to the dissemination of fashion design ideas worldwide. According to Tomlinson, this has essentially permitted the quick changes in the fashion business, such as sophisticated equipment in the retail fashion industry to take advantage of the demand for garments and fashion designs around the world (2003). Many academic authors have studied and attempted to define what globalization is; some of their methods focus more on the economy, while others are more social in nature. We could say that they complement one another, thus when studying a subject like globalization, it is important to have our minds open to debating many angles and viewpoints on the matter.
III. Business Problems 1. What are the benefits of the globalization of the fashion industry? 2. What are the negative effects of the globalization of the fashion industry? 3. What are the solutions being explored by people to the problems brought about by the globalization of the fashion industry? IV. Solutions 1. One of the advantages of globalization of the fashion business, as shown in the documentary, is that it has expanded the number of employment available, increased the amount of clothes produced, and made apparel more inexpensive. 2. The negative consequences of globalization in the fashion business is that it has resulted in environmental difficulties, social problems, and economic concerns. 3. The solutions being explored by people to the problems brought about by the globalization of the fashion industry include creating more sustainable clothing, creating fair trade practices, and creating transparency in the supply chain. V. Conclusion In conclusion, the convenience and accessibility of the newest fashion trends by customers around the world through many promotion avenues has contributed to the obvious growth in the globalization of fashion designs over the past ten years. As a result of having access to the most recent fashion trends and styles as a result of globalization, fashion designs have continuously evolved, changed, and been recreated by designers, leading to higher expectations from consumers worldwide.
