Sarah Cummins Principles of Management Southern New Hampshire University 4-2 Journal: Do You Embrace Change? The change process within a business’s organization can be impacted in a positive or negative way from the culture of it. When it comes to change, it is usually not taken lightly. This is due to fear of what is going to happen next or simply being uncomfortable. However, in a business change can be a beneficial thing, creating new opportunity for the business and its employees. Mark Mueller-Eberstein (2012) states that, the only thing we know will happen in life is change. For change to be accepted by people, they must be shown the possible success rate, structure, and new opportunities for them to feel secure in this move. All things including creativity and empowerment should result from the structure of organization. When change is about to happen, it is most important that management sits down with employees and provides a precise and clear understanding about what is going to happen. This is the perfect time for employees to ask questions and learn more about the opportunities. This will initially make the change less intimidating for the employees and they can have an ease of mind. Leadership is one of the key factors in the culture of organization. This will impact the change firsthand. If there is great leadership in the business, employees will be more open to the change and be excited about it. The second key factor during this process is communication. The management team needs to ensure that there is clear communication amongst them and their employees. This will result in everyone knowing what is going on and there will be no surprises being put onto anyone during this time. This will provide management with the knowledge and
ability to control what is going on. That way there will be a set of requirements and standards for the dos and don’ts of the previous practice. This is why it is essential for management to create a structured organized culture in the workplace. As for me, I try to avoid change as much as possible. I used to not be like that but somewhere along the line I began to not like change. I’m not sure if it’s because of the unknowns or simply being uncomfortable. However, change is important for us to grow as individuals and I’m still trying to figure that out. I hope that after this assignment I can implement some change into my life to bring happiness and success. At my most recent job position, there was change almost daily. If it wasn’t computer systems, it was what the daily tasks were. This began to make me very nervous and fear what was to come daily. There were always new people being hired and it seemed like everyone was in an uproar and didn’t know what to do. Thankfully, I resigned from that position. I hope to find a better career!
