Vision and Organizational Success: T-Mobile
Introduction
Creating a vision and mission statement can declare a business’s success or failure as it is
the message that defines the business. Sean Peek (2020) defines a vision statement as “a written declaration clarifying your business’s meaning and purpose for stakeholders, especially employees.” With the right tools to develop the base, businesses are given the opportunity to be successful in the moment and guiding the business in the right direction for the continued future success.
Overview and Description of Goals Great Places to Work Selected Organization
T-Mobile US Inc. rebranded themselves a little over 20 years ago after the purchase of VoiceStream Wireless by Deutsche Telekom. The company offers a variety of network services such as voice, mobile internet, home internet and watches to name a few. T-Mobile is built on being the largest and fastest network provider in America. T-Mobile strives on putting their customers first as T-Mobile’s CMO, Mike Katz (2022), talks about “the company having a long dedication of energy putting their customers first and making it their mission to change wireless for good by listening to customers and fixing their pain points.” Over the last 20 years, T-Mobile
has made their customers and employees a priority while building and expanding their network.
Vision, Mission & Value Elements
The company’s vision statement of T-Mobile follows the steps provided by Editorial, LID (2015) that sends a clear and dynamic vision of the future because of the inspiration, energy,
and commitment it states. A mission statement and vision statements are both crucial for building their brand (Peek, 2020). Their vision also provides a clear focus for the future by promoting their effectiveness and confidence from their teamwork as everyone is working

towards the achievement of the same goal. Their vision statement is to inspire the use of the network with the scale and resources to drive transformational improvements that are visible to their customers, employees, the society, and our planet.
The mission statement of the company T-Mobile that is driven by their success is as simple as being the best in the world at connecting customers to their world (Sievert, 2023). The company wants to ensure that its network technology is positively impacting their customer’s lives while supporting innovation and sustainable solutions to continue the positive impact. The company has a few core values they follow. Their first and main priority of values are that their customer delight drives action. They want to provide for the customers by doing it right the first time. If customers are not a priority and needs are not being met, then the company adapts and provides solutions. Another one of their company values is that it is the best place to perform and grow. The company is listed under the fortune best workplaces for diversity and that
several employees would agree that T-Mobile is a great place to work. Performance is constantly
being measured and take in to count for growth opportunities. T-Mobile takes great pride in being in the top 100 companies to work for (Fortune, 2023) as they take value in every single one of their employees. The company offers growth opportunities in jobs and education as they continue to invest in their employees looking into the future. Establishing an environment that fosters success, diversity, and a well-known reputation ensures the growth of customers and employees. History of T-Mobile
Founded in 1994, T-Mobile made their mark in the telecommunications services beginning in Bellevue, Washington. The company’s focus was to deliver the largest nationwide network that offers connectivity services for all. The T-Mobile brand is well-known in America

and growing into a developing European territory factoring in Germany’s Deutsche Telekom. The company took priority in branding themselves as the Un-Carrier which is a combination of value and quality that offers the best possible service experience in a competitive wireless industry. T-Mobile’s Growth Goals
As a leading role in the company, it is believed that the vision is clear and direct that continues to show in the company’s successes. The issue is that no everyone is being served and not seeing the full value of the company and that is something that needs worked on and changed. The next steps in achieving the goals would include expansions into more communities
and creating an innovating and unique sustainable future. The company is to take their vision and
mission statements and apply their core values into spreading their messages across the country and into other international countries to further expand their network but doing so by creating solutions in their environmental concerns. In January of 2023, T-Mobile signed onto The Climate Pledge, which is “the company’s latest step forward in its sustainability efforts, including an industry-leading commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across its entire carbon footprint by 2040” (T-Mobile Newsroom, 2023). This new commitment by T-Mobile becomes the first in U.S. wireless that sets goals of net-zero that is being validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) which aligns company targets with using the most recent climate science as measurement. The positive impact
to this strategy is the efforts in creating a sustainable future for everyone by setting bold targets. This cannot be done with the assistance of partners and suppliers wanting to achieve aggressive long-term future goals. As a commitment, T-Mobile pledges to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis and to implement decarbonization strategies including efficiency

improvements, renewable energy, and materials reductions (T-Mobile Newsroom, 2023). The issue that the company might run into would be resources to support this cause. The company is large and produces a ton of revenue, however a project this large and efficient requires additional
funds and resources, so there is a need to find additional partners to expand with this project. A project this costly could result in the employees to lose dollars over more sales as the company needs to support ways to cut costs to have additional funds for a project this is projected 17 years
into the future. The concern I project is that if the company continues to expand internationally and domestically, as well as focus on the Climate Pledge, the quality of our employees, customers, mission, and values will see a decrease as the company investigates ways to cut costs to expand and that would break the morale of being a 100 place to work. Taking care of the customers, employees, and community is an important focus to continue succeed and achieving goals while expressing value and growth into the company.
Vision Integration into Current State
Current Vision of T-Mobile
As stated previously, the vision statement of T-Mobile is to inspire the use of the network
with the scale and resources to drive transformational improvements that are visible to their customers, employees, the society, and our planet. This vision is accomplished with the involvement of customers and employees to create a better experience. Striving to be the leader in the wireless network industry can influence further expansions while assisting the community.
Personal Vision Creation My personal vision statement that I live by is “Water the knowledge that’s been given to you, and watch it grow into something bright and beautiful.” My vision is about learning and sharing that knowledge to others that surround you. Life is worth living as it continues to grow

and will eventually blossom into something beautiful. I share my vision with my husband, family, friends, and coworker whether they are in my past or present. We are always taught to share, so I appreciate the sharing of knowledge. I am not perfect, and have made some mistakes, and will probably continue to make mistakes, but it’s about how I embrace what I’ve learned from those mistakes and continue to move forward. The version of my personal vision statement and T-Mobile’s vision statement both declare growth and positivity. They both emphasize on adapting, teaching, and improving for not
just one person, but for everyone. A revised vision statement integrating mine and T-Mobile’s would look like:
“Teach and inspire with the use of the network that drive transformational growth and improvements visible to everyone and everything. T-Mobile is committed to joint efforts when developing solutions that improve the quality of life to their customers, employees, community, and environment while establishing a diverse and positive future.”
A vision statement should match the goals that you want to achieve long-term and how you will achieve that goal. Koch (2019) talks about “the goal of the personal and business vision is to look at the long term and write the vision statements like we’re already there.” The process that involves all stakeholders in this newly created vision is ensuring the company is working together towards higher accomplishments that involve both current and future employees. This also involves any current and future customers who are part of and want to join the T-Mobile family. As a customer, you want to see and feel valued and that a company’s vision and mission are aligned with their services. Getting the community on board with the vision statement, mission statement, and the values and getting the current and future employees on board to execute those statements and

values. If the employees and customers are happy and having a great experience, and the community is on board and supportive, then the company will have no doubt in executing their vision statement making them a successful company. As an employee of T-Mobile, it is essential
to meet customer expectations while gaining the support of the community as the company is expressing their statements and values. Ensuring that all parties are being taken care of will reassure stakeholders, board members, and any other higher up employees that are part of T-
Mobile. Following and executing the vision statement, mission statement, and values of the company brings together a culture and community that benefits all parties. Measurement
For a large corporation, the best and most effective way to measure and evaluate effectiveness would be from conducting surveys. An author from a Chron Contributor (2020) states that “performance in customer satisfaction is a key factor in long-term success.” As a current employee for the company, T-Mobile offers surveys to both their customers and their employees based on satisfaction and experience. The surveys are distributed differently, but still provide the same effectiveness. By conducting surveys, the company can collect data to measure performance and satisfaction based on company expectations. Surveys allow the company to receive feedback and positivity while giving them a direction if they are successful or not. Receiving feedback and criticism is healthy for any business and allows for growth.
Conclusion
Just like any business, successful or not, there is always room for growth and T-Mobile is
no exception. T-Mobile is growing and adapting into change that is going to better the business. The company is following through with staying on the path of excellence by continuing to

exemplify and modify their vision, mission, and values. T-Mobile continues to set and exceed their long-term and short-term goals.
