About this Assessment
This assessment consists of two (2) parts:
1.
Instruct 3 Group Exercise Sessions
2.
Evaluate, Review and Document Group Exercise Sessions
You will need six (6) participants who can complete the three (3) group exercise sessions and play the role
of the clients. You must also gather feeback at the end of your sessions from the clients.
Instructions for the Workplace Supervisor
●
You will need to sign a supervisor declaration, confirming you have sufficiently observed the student,
whose name appears above, complete Task 1 in the workplace.
●
You will need to observe the student instruct three (3) group exercise sessions, with each group session
having six (6) clients to industry standards, ensuring the environment is as close to real-world as
possible. Specific requirements for you to observe are in the observation checklist -
Task 1 Observation

This section must be completed by the student, all areas must be
completed prior to being uploaded to the Learning Management
System.
You will see this icon often on the observation checklist and must be
completed by the Supervisor to industry standards, all sections must

All parties must read this information to ensure you are ready to
complete the observation tasks and assessments. Role-play
participants can be friends, family members, classmates or colleagues.
How to handle second attempts
In the event the student does not demonstrate the required skills to industry standards, ensure you mark
them ‘No’ with the observation task and provide them feedback and a second attempt.
Depending on the level of their performance, you may:

Let them redo the task immediately after consideration of feedback
●
Request they undertake further learning and redo the task at a later date — in this case, provide the
student with a new date for the role-plays to be undertaken
●
Discuss timeframes for reassessment with the student when you tell them the outcome for this task

Task overview
For this assessment, you will be instructing
three (3) 45-minute
group exercise sessions, each with 6
participants. You may use participants of your choice or clients within your workplace; however, the
participants must meet the gender and age requirements of the sessions. Role-play participants must not
have any risk factors that require medical guidance or substantial modifications to the session delivery.
Session plans have been provided for each session.
Documents required for Task 1
To complete these tasks, you will require the following documents located at the back of this document
within the Appendix:

All three (3) group exercise programs
●
All role-play clients Pre-exercise Screening Tools
●
Medical guidance for ‘Bernard Jones’ and ‘Gwen Smith’
You must ensure you complete the sessions in accordance with industry standards, policies, and
procedures. Located in the
‘WOA attachments.zip’
folder, are policies and procedures for a
simulated business Bounce Fitness these can be used to assist with your sessions and/or if the
workplace does not have any policies and procedures. Documents include:

Session One Requirements
Session One must meet all the following requirements:
●
There must be at least six (6) participants in the exercise session. This must include at least four (4)
female adults (or role-played females). Each role-play participant must play the role of one of these
participants:

Pre-exercise screening tools (
Appendix
) were completed by each of the above clients when they joined
the fitness facility. You must check all pre-exercise screening tools to determine if guidance is necessary
for any clients or to identify if guidance has already been given.
●
Prior to the session ensure you conduct verbal screening to confirm nothing has changed since they
completed their pre-exercise screening tool.
●
During the session, client ‘Hannah Miller’ must role-play showing signs of overexertion or difficulty. This
may include the inability to perform or complete an exercise or performing an exercise with poor
technique to signify signs of exertion. The student must respond appropriately to this client by finding a
suitable modification.
●
At the end of the session, you must collect verbal feedback from your clients and provide notes in the
Session Documentation and Evaluation Report.
●
After the session you must record any modifications that you offered on the ‘Modifications’ form
provided below the observation checklist.
Session Two Requirements
Session Two must meet all of the following requirements:

Session Three Requirements
Session Three must meet all of the following requirements:

There must be six (6) participants in the exercise session. This must include at least four (4) participants
aged 55 years (or role-played adults over the age of 55). Each role-play participant must play the role of
one of these clients:

After the session is finished (after the cool-down), ‘Gwen Smith’ must role-play fainting. You must:

Follow emergency procedures to respond appropriately
−
Complete the Incident Report Form in response to Gwen Smith’s fainting. This form has been
provided in this document.
●
At the end of the session, you must collect verbal feedback from your clients and provide notes in the
Session Documentation and Evaluation Report.
●
After the session you must record any modifications that you offered on the ‘Modifications’ form
provided below the observation checklist.

Session Plan
Description:
This program has been designed as a circuit. There are 7 exercises, and each will be performed for 30
seconds, followed by 30 seconds of rest x 2 sets (2 minutes on each exercise) before transitioning to the next
exercise. During the rest time of the second set, the participant must prepare for the next exercise. After all
the exercises have been performed, there will be 3.5 minutes of rest before the next round.

Session Plan
Description:
This program has been designed as a circuit. There are 7 exercises, and each will be performed for 30
seconds, followed by 30 seconds of rest x 2 sets (2 minutes on each exercise) before transitioning to the next
exercise. During the rest time of the second set, the participant must prepare for the next exercise. After all
the exercises have been performed, there will be 3.5 minutes of rest before the next round.
Format:
Round 1: all 7 exercises for 2 minutes per exercise (30 sec work, 30 sec rest x 2) = 14 minutes
Rest: 3.5 minutes
Round 2: all 7 exercises for 2 minutes per exercise (30 sec work, 30 sec rest x 2) = 14 minutes
Rest: 3.5 minutes

Session Plan
Description:
This session is designed for over 55s and contains options for progression and regression as needed. There
are 6 exercises to be completed as a circuit with three rounds. Participants should only perform as many
repetitions as can be performed with correct technique. Allow sufficient transition time between exercises
and rest if required. The timing of each exercise will vary depending on participant ability. The timing below
is to be used as a guide only.
Format:
Round 1: all 6 exercises for up to 1.5 minutes per exercise (this time includes the time for
instruction/demonstration as well as for the participants completing the exercise) = 9 minutes
Rest: 3 minutes
Round 2: all 6 exercises for up to 2 minutes per exercise (this time includes the time for
instruction/demonstration as well as for the participants completing the exercise) = 12 minutes
Rest: 3 minutes
Round 3: all 6 exercises for up to 2 minutes per exercise (this time includes the time for
instruction/demonstration as well as for the participants completing the exercise) = 12 minutes
Rest: 3 minutes
Equipment:
Required: stopwatch/timer, weight of any kind for an overhead press (e.g., dumbbell, medicine ball, weight
plate, barbell)
