You must use APA
formatting for your answers including the use of in-text citations and referencing as needed. This includes using a title page, double-spacing times new roman (12pt), numbering pages, referencing sources properly both in-text and in the reference page, and using headings where appropriate to help with reading clarity
and to identify which question you are answering. Pay attention to your spelling and grammar as you will be penalized as described in the marking rubric. Do not repeat the question as this will increase your Turnitin score. You will lose at least a format mark if you do not follow instructions.

1.
Milton Friedman argued that "Few trends could so thoroughly undermine the very foundations of our free society as the acceptance by corporate officials of a social responsibility other than to make as much money for their stockholders as possible" (Friedman, 1962, p. 133). Why is this argument no longer socially acceptable?
-
This argument is no longer socially acceptable due to the anti-CSR position that Friedman defended, would only be acceptable if all markets were perfectly competitive and if income distribution was equitable in the minimal sense where everyone plays the game, and if no endogenous changes in the preference of agents occur. The problem with this view is that it’s theoretically groundless and legally contradictory. The claim that a corporation should maximize its profits for its shareholders is devoid of legal meaning. 2.
Briefly define the most important argument for CSR and critically reflect on why you
think your choice is the most important.
-
Public expectations from businesses have changed. If businesses wish to remain in existence for a long term, it must respond to society’s needs and give society what it wants. This also piggybacks off of moral justification; firms have a moral duty towards society in which they operate. CSR is therefore driven by intrinsic motives such as moral rules and personal values.
3.
Give a current example from Canadian society or businesses to support your reflection in question 2 (you will need to search the internet for an example)

1.
Make a list of the rights of a corporation and a separate list of its responsibilities. Which list is longer? Reflect on why that is?
-
In the textbook there are links between individuals and organizational performance of responsible management. Chapter 5 mentioned that to fully comprehend CSR a person needs to understand the social responsibilities and rights of a corporation. There are rights that accompany the legal status of a corporation, as well the right to possess property, incur debts, sue or to be sued, and overall be fined by the federal government (Chandler, 2022). On
the other hand, there are responsibilities that a corporation needs to achieve in order for their stakeholders to be happy. The main responsibility of corporations is to put their stakeholders first. Therefore the list of corporations rights is significantly longer than the corporate responsibilities. -
