An Analysis of the Optimizing the Supply Chain of Quik Chips Inc. Quik Chips is a third-party logistics firm that provides a full range of e commerce and fulfillment services to help meet customer demand for five chip manufacturers. In recent years there has been rapid growth in the semiconductor industry due to the adoption of more advanced technologies such as smartphones and tablets. Because of this increased demand Quik Chips needs to ensure that their supply chain is optimal and can manage their customer’s needs. Background of Quik Chips Quik Chips works in a joint venture with five different chip manufacturers and this broad range of customers likely provides Quik Chips with economies of scale, which in turn helps them lower their costs. Quik chips collaborates with these manufacturers as well as the end users which further enhances the abilities of the firm. This collaboration serves them with an advantage but in turn the firm must stay flexible and adapt to any new challenges with increased demand. Enhancing and Optimizing the Supply Chain to Meet Rapid Demand There are a number of ways that QC can optimize its supply chain with the most notable being inventory control. The inventory manager is responsible for this role and can be equipped with more advanced inventory management technology. Such as IT (Information technology). Information is important when it comes down to keeping track of how much inventory is on hand as well as what is being demanded. And inventory is a powerful tool if it is accurate, timely, and shared and it can reduce uncertainty. So, giving the inventory manager the proper information technology can be critical in forecasting demand.
This brings me to another technology upgrade that can be implemented by the firm, which is a Warehouse management system. By equipping the warehouse manager with the tools and analytics of tracking the product that is waiting to be fulfilled in a warehouse paired with the previously discussed information technology, they can better understand exactly what and where inventory should be moved and stored. In the circumstance of Quik Chips an integrated warehouse management system along with an Enterprise Recourse Management (ERP) partner, who manages invoicing may be the proper route in order for it to be easier to track orders. A solution to ensuring that Quik Chip’s supply chain is optimal after upgrading these technologies is by developing supply chain metrics. This will be a collaborative group effort that can be implemented by a team of individuals who each represent functional areas in the firm that will each be impacted by these metrics. These metrics can ultimately be developed into an “executive dashboard” that includes different Key Performance Indicators, or KPIs that will be overseen by management. These metrics should align with the overall corporate strategy of Quik Chips. Conclusion Even with the increased demand that Quik Chips must meet for its customers, by upgrading its technology and putting metrics in place that enhance its overall supply chain it can more effectively measure what its customers and end users need and therefore take advantage of the abundant opportunities in the semiconductor marketplace.
