Journal Two Use organizational strategy companies look to do better than other companies. They use several different strategies to select projects that assist them in outperforming competitors. Companies will use several ways to decide if a project will be profitable or sustainable. Companies also must align their goals, strategies and objectives with each project they choose to take on. Companies' main objective is to pursue profit and projects that will yield them the most profit while aligning with their goals. Companies will use return on investment (ROI) which is the ratio of money gained or lost to the amount of money invested (Project Selection & Initiation, 2023). Companies use the rate of return to decide if a project is worth it for them to pursue the project or not, often called the hurdle rate. When the ROI is less than the hurdle rate the company should not pursue the project. They also will evaluate using net present value (NPV) to determine future cash flow using the value of today's dollar versus the value of the dollar in a future date (Project Selection & Initiation, 2023). Companies will choose projects that yield the highest NPV or at least a positive NPVs. Companies have several ways to decide on projects to work on to increase their profitability using ROI and NPV. Sustainability is a common approach related to the management of projects, and other entities requiring effective and efficient production, marketing, distribution, and the delivery products and services (Morfaw J, 2014). Companies can not compromise their resources environmentally, socially and economically by then affecting organizational growth. Companies build sustainability by aligning their goals, resources and planning to grow their company with specific projects. Project Management. (2023). QSO 640 – Project Management.
