Task 6 Observation During my observations I will be looking to see what the residence do during their free time towards helping themselves along with how the staff interact with the residence. In this setting observations seem to be more for verifying that any issues are with what the agency is doing and not in a lack of effort from clients. Most information will come from data collection and interviews. Interviews Sharon Gallimore, owner operator What is your purpose for the agency? What made you want to open this agency? What services are available to residence? What services do you wish were offered to residence? Residence of Wythe Mercy and Refuge house What do you hope to gain from being a resident of Wythe mercy and Refuge House? How has Wythe Mercy and Refuge helped you? What more could Wythe Mercy and Refuge do for you? What made you choose Wythe Mercy and Refuge? After reading the peer responses about my first draft I agree with my peers that adding more questions in my interviews would be beneficial. Mainly adding more questions to the residence of the refuge house. I would add questions about how effective or ineffective the services provided have been for them. I also think asking why the residents chose this facility could be both a good source of information but may be a little touchy of a subject to ask some of the residence. I’m not sure if an evaluator should be asking those questions to possible domestic violence survivors and other sensitive subjects, though it would give a glimpse into what the resident expected coming to a place like this compared to what they have received. It might be easier to do a short survey with the touchier information, so the residence can feel a sense of comfort in the anonymity of a paper survey. Finally adding a question for the owner/operator about what improvements she thinks could be made would be very beneficial to the evaluation. Seeing what the owner/operator thinks could be improved compared to what I find in my evaluation could help her see things differently in the future and more able to make her own improvements. Many of my peers inquired about interviewing the other staff and I can see if that is an option but most of the actual staff and services are provided at other agency while the center serves as a home and informational center for the women and children in need.
