Megan Dawson LEAD 1010 Professor Kendall December 14, 2023 Prompt 2 Being a team player means being able to willingly collaborate with others, recognizing that collective efforts often lead to better outcomes than individual contributions, and being reliable to do your coursework. During the team project Levar wanted to design our PowerPoint. During other team projects I have been in I am using the one that design the presentation. But I know how to be a team player, so I let Levar design the presentation. Another thing I did during the project was make the class activity. We hadn’t decided who was going to make the activity, but I decided to step up and make it, so it was out of the way. Continuing to strengthen skills as a team player involves a proactive and reflective approach to personal and professional development. Some of the ways to strengthen my skills would be to seek feedback, continue to learn, reflect on myself, and make sure that there is clear communication. Getting feedback from team members can help me gain insight into the areas I need to improve. Staying informed about the latest communication strategies and team building exercises. I regularly reflect on my own actions and interactions within the team. I consider how my behavior, communication, and contributions impact the team dynamic. I could also encourage open dialogue, provide regular updates, and facilitate a culture where team members feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and concerns to strengthen my communication skills.
Over this semester I have become a better team member. When I first took the Self- Assessment Quiz 9-1 I got a 36. It said that I was ok with being in a group, but I would much rather work alone. When I took the assessment again, I got a 48. It now says that I have a strong positive attitude toward being a team player and cooperating with other members. I can be a better team player in the future just step a little bit out of my comfort zone. Prompt 3 Motivation is the driving force that compels individuals to initiate and sustain actions towards the achievement of their goals. It serves as the spark that propels people to overcome challenges, persevere through difficulties, and strive for success. Motivation plays a pivotal role in personal and professional development. When I took my Seft-Assessment Quiz 10-1 I got a 65. Taking this assessment, it showed me that I have the average amount of knowledge and skills about motivation. It shows that I can improve in some spots like asking the other person what he or she is hoping to achieve. Goal theory posits that setting specific and challenging goals can enhance individual performance and motivation. This theory has been widely applied across various fields, including education, business, sports, and personal development. At the core of goal theory is the idea that clear and challenging goals lead to higher levels of performance than vague or easily attainable ones. Goals that are specific and measurable provide individuals with a clear target, making it easier to gauge progress and stay focused. Staying motivated in challenging circumstances requires a combination of strategies that address both the emotional and practical aspects of the situation. Some ways I stay motivated are
celebrating the small wins and having a routine. Celebrating the small wins, no matter how small, fosters a positive mindset and reinforces the idea that effort leads to success. Having a routine helps bring me a sense of structure and stability. Having a set schedule provides a framework for productivity and helps prevent feelings of chaos or overwhelm. Motivating and encouraging others during challenging times requires a thoughtful and empathetic approach. Some ways I help others stay motivated are helping them have a positive mindset and offering practical assistance. I help to foster a positive outlook by helping them focus on what they can control rather than what they can’t. I provide tangible help or assistance if possible. This could involve sharing resources, helping with specific tasks, or connecting them with individuals who can provide additional support. Prompt 4 The concept of servant leadership has had a profound impact on my understanding of effective leadership and has significantly shaped my perspective on how leaders can inspire and influence positive change. Servant leadership is rooted in the idea that leaders should prioritize the well-being and growth of their followers, viewing leadership as a service to others rather than a position of power. One key principle of servant leadership is the emphasis on serving the needs of others. Rather than pursuing leadership for personal gain or authority, servant leaders focus on helping others succeed, grow, and reach their full potential. This concept resonates with me because it challenges the traditional hierarchical view of leadership, emphasizing collaboration, empathy, and a commitment to the development of those being led. The impact of servant leadership on

me is reflected in my belief that leadership is a responsibility to serve and elevate others. This concept has encouraged me to prioritize the needs of my team, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Furthermore, servant leadership aligns with the idea that leadership is not about personal glory but about contributing to the success and development of the team and the organization as a whole. It has influenced my approach to decision-making, emphasizing ethical considerations, and a commitment to the greater good. As I grow and evolve as a leader the one thing that will stick with me is that understanding that empathy and active listening are powerful tools for building strong relationships and fostering a sense of belonging within a team. Another thing that will stick with me is the understanding that collaboration and empowering team members are key to achieving collective success. By staying true to these foundational elements, I aspire to contribute positively to the growth and success of both individuals and the organizations I have the privilege to lead.
