Job Analysis and Job Description Birmingham City Schools is a public school district in Birmingham, Alabama. The vision of Birmingham City Schools is to provide a quality education that prepares students for college and career success. The district is committed to creating a safe space and supportive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth. The mission of Birmingham city school district is to guide all students to achieve excellence in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. A vision of Birmingham City Schools is to be a recognized leader in public education, meeting the needs of a diverse student population prepared to succeed in a global society (Birmingham City Schools , 2022). Birmingham City Schools have core values that the school district pride themselves on. The core values are as follows; Diversity, Integrity, Respect, Excellence, Compassion, and Teamwork (Birmingham City Schools , 2022). Birmingham City Schools has a strategy that they use to reach their district goal. The plan is student success, team success, stakeholder trust, and effective systems and planning (Birmingham City Schools , 2022). Birmingham City Schools has posted a position for a general science teacher that they are looking to fill. General Science Teacher 2023-2024 SY, Create a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an educational setting. Establish effective rapport with the students. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each student’s ability. 2

There are certain qualifications from the state of Alabama that have to be met before teaching in the Birmingham City School District. A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. A valid Alabama Teaching Certificate and, must meet or be willing to meet the Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements. Per the state of Alabama in order to be certified in science you must take and pass the praxis in either 4th -8th grade science or 6th-12th grade science. As a teacher in Birmingham City Schools, you are expected to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors in the overall educational plan for students (Birmingham City Schools , 2022). You will also be expected to instruct students in a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards. You will be expected to establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing a positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors. As an employee of Birmingham City Schools you are expected to instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and policies and procedures of Birmingham City Schools (Birmingham City Schools , 2022). In order to achieve this pillar, as a teacher, you are instructed to teach students using a program of study that prepares students to master the standards (Birmingham City Schools , 2022). The position of a general science teacher serves the company by providing students a quality education. Having a teacher inside the classroom will equip students with the necessary knowledge and instruction that will ensure that they can master the standards. The main purpose of a teacher in Birmingham City Schools, is to be a role model, influence career choices and push students to reach their highest potential. The state requires that each teacher have a valid certificate in the content area that they are teaching. The laws of the AEA (Alabama Education Association ) were considered when creating the job description. The main legal rights of an educator in the state of Alabama is to ensure a safe and secure learning environment, providing equal educational opportunities to all students, adhering to laws and policies related to the privacy of students, and mandatory reporting. 4
