These programs are used by companies like Toyota, Ford, and even Philips. On the other hand there has been additional businesses like banking, hospitality, and educations that will be taking advantage of programs like this. - Six Sigma: This methods are used to monitor the quality of the output. It also aims to decrease the number of defects and errors. Because of this, we can say it is process centered. Motorola took advantage of this methodology in 1986 and was able to improve their manufacturing processes. - Lean Manufacturing: This method will save on cost as better management and allocation of resources improves. There are other programs but I would like to drill in on the tools for the programs. - Flow charts: This chart contains pictures and symbols with lines to display the direction of the flow. Having this model also allows an understanding of the possible problems and opportunities. An example of this can be when constructing a project plan for IT system upgrades. - Pareto Principle: This principle suggests the most effects that come from relatively causes. “ In quantitative terms: 80% of the problems come from 20% of the causes (machines, raw materials, operators etc.); 80% of the wealth is owned
by 20% of the people etc.   ( TQM Tools , n.d.). In my team at work we pull a lot of our reports on productions using control charts, pareto principles, and control charts. With information from these tools, we are able to determine if the IT systems we have is capable to sustain the users use, additional system resources are needed, or if we just need to assist/ educate our users in maximizing their queries for efficiency. Hello Jalisa, Great post this week. I just wanted to share some disadvantages of TQM I came across online. TQM requires a significant amount of time when planning and locating resources. It also requires that a company continues to focus on improving processes on a long term bases. Although there is a disadvantage that training may be a must when implementing TQM, it will be well worth it. Just like Toyota, they began adopting TQM in 1949 but “ In 1994, the "Toyota Group Executive TQM Training Course" was established, providing TQM training for new executives.” (Gillis & Pratt, 2023). By today’s date they have been able to generate more than 40 million ideas. Reference: Gillis, A. S., & Pratt, M. K. (2023). Total Quality Management (TQM). Hello Shanica, Great post this week. ISO 9001 has many objectives but some that stood out to me was from Disha (2014) - To improve communications and morale in the organization - To increase confidence in the production system Taking advantage of these options to improve the company, is a plus. ISO 9001 focuses on sections like products, management systems, resource management and analysis. This will gear the needed improvements for the company or process to be successful. Reference: Disha.
