628 Week 3 Discussion: DiNovi and Gavoni define self-monitoring as “one’s willingness to discriminate amongst social cues and respond accordingly under various conditions… Behavioral self-monitoring and reporting progress have been part of a packaged intervention that includes variables like goal setting and feedback as a practical approach to accelerate performance and achieve related outcomes (DiNovi & Gavoni, 2021, p. 111).” This can be carried out in a variety of ways and can include the use of instruction, materials in the environment, and dialogue with a supervisor. Self- monitoring can serve as a positive reinforcer when we are able to submit and record good scores. We can see the progress we are making, and this score can help increase our behavior. It can act as a negative reinforcer when we are reporting a low score for ourselves. When we report a low score, we will increase our work efforts to avoid a low report in the future. “A procedure whereby a person observes his behavior systematically and records the occurrence or nonoccurrence of a target behavior (Cooper et. al, 2020)” is self-monitoring. An example of how I have been self-monitoring with my SAFMEDS each week comes as I take my data from my runs each day. At the end of my runs, I log in to my Precision X account and add measures of my best daily score. I then report out my SAFMEDS results through my weekly report as I go over my data for the week and go over any interventions I need to make to have more success the following week.
