628 Week 7 Discussion: The performance of a diagnostic checklist unpacks the four-term contingency “as it relates to performance issues [that] allow us to understand functionally why performance is or is not occurring to a pre-set standard ( DiNovi & Gavoni, 2021, p. 77) .” This is important to the four- term contingency because in addition to the ABC, it adds a fourth contingency to the equation, that of Motivating Operations. Motivation is a huge aspect of behavior change and engagement. People need to want things; they need to have the motivation to achieve a particular outcome. They cannot just have it be expected of them when they don’t have motivation or value of a why they are doing it. When we are trying to identify performance issues within an organization there are two ways that we can identify the root of the problem. The first way is to utilize a PDC (Performance Diagnostic Checklist) to determine possible antecedent strategies that may be hindering progress or motivation such as training and skills. According to Cooper et. al, 2020 an antecedent is a change in that exists in the form of environmental condition or stimulus that occurs prior to a behavior of interest. When we are using an antecedent strategy, we are looking to see what happens before a behavior, and in the case of a company that could be low performing behaviors. The second way we can identify a problem is through analyzing the used consequences. When we focus on utilizing useful consequences, we can see the improvement we are looking for. We need to avoid consequence strategies that may cause fear or doubt and focus on motivation and what can be done to promote awareness. References: Cooper, J. O., Heron, T. E., & Heward, W. L.
