Introduction
Overview of the Purpose of the Report
This study was conducted to better inform Qatar Airways' management decisions and ensure
the company's continued prosperity. The primary purpose of this research is to better
understand the ways in which effective leadership practises at Qatar Airways have aided the
company's expansion and growth.
Definition of leadership and management
The ability to motivate others to work together towards a single goal is at the heart of what it
means to lead. The ability to think strategically, come up with a game plan, make good calls,
and inspire one's team members to give their best are all necessary leadership and
management skills. On the other hand, management entails making decisions from a menu of
possible actions in order to optimise output and efficiency in accomplishing organisational
goals. When things go smoothly, people's efforts are maximised and their objectives are met.
Why leadership management is important for Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways' rapid adaptation to market shifts, new chances for growth, and the company's
own ambitious ambitions are all the result of strong strategic leadership. Qatar Airways needs
to be flexible in order to be profitable and competitive as the market, technology, and
consumer preferences evolve. Qatar Airways' success is largely attributable to the company's
competent management and visionary leadership. Competent management yields a focus on
the customer, the support of employees, and well-defined objectives. Superior management
increases output, minimises waste, and maximises adaptability. Leadership and management
of Qatar Airways are crucial to the airline's success and to maintaining its consistently high
customer satisfaction scores.

Task 1 Management Practices
Critically analyse the mission, values and management practices within Qatar
Airways
Qatar Airways has established its objective of being the preeminent airline globally. The
primary objectives of this system are to provide benefits to all stakeholders involved, ensure
the system's security and reliability, and deliver exceptional customer service. The airline has
established a commendable standing in the industry due to its commitment to innovation,
transparency, and attentive customer service.
Mission:
Qatar Airways endeavours to achieve excellence in its operations. This statement
suggests that our customers consistently have the highest level of importance in our business
operations (
Fetais et al., 2020). Our airline possesses a devoted client base due to the fact that
customers have confidence in our commitment to equitable treatment.
Values:
The aspiration for exceptional performance is a core goal, and we are dedicated to
achieving it in all of our undertakings. The term "primary industry" within the context of a
firm pertains to the specific area in which it generates the highest level of financial gain
(
Petcu, 2021).
The management of Qatar Airways has demonstrated a strong dedication to the principles of
strategic planning, operational efficiency, and continuous growth. The airline's notable ascent
to prominence may be attributed mostly to the strategic leadership provided by Mr. Akbar Al
Baker. The primary managerial practises employed by Qatar Airways encompass:
Operational Excellence:
In the corporate world, Qatar Airways places a premium on
quickness and accuracy. The leadership is aware that effective management, cutting-
edge technology, and reliable processes are essential to the company's continued
success. The timeliness of flights, the convenience of baggage check-in, and the
security of passengers are the airline's calling cards (
Sulistya and Ginaya, 2020).
Strategic Planning:
The company's long-term goals include expanding its operations
across the world and solidifying its status as the market leader. In order to anticipate
growth opportunities, management conducts in-depth market research. The strategy
has allowed the airline to reach new customers, develop ground-breaking new
services, and stay ahead of the curve.
5 |
P a g e
Engagement of Employees:
Qatar Airways values its staff members and appreciates
their hard work. The airline places a premium on employees' continued development
(
Kucsera, 2021). The airline prioritises a positive work environment by encouraging
employees to work together and advance in their careers. It has been demonstrated
that making workers happy leads to increased output and satisfaction.
Customer-Centric Approach:
Flying with Qatar Airways guarantees they a once-in-a-
lifetime experience. The company's first priority is providing excellent customer
service, which includes focusing on the specifics of each request and going above and
beyond expectations. The numerous accolades bestowed upon the airline for excellent
service are evidence of the strategy's effectiveness (
Chiambaretto and Wassmer,
2019).
Management practices are aligned to the mission and values of the airline
Closer analysis reveals that Qatar Airways' management is dedicated to the company's
declared purpose, values, and objectives. The business strategy for the airline highlights the
company's dedication to optimal levels of productivity and client happiness. The long-term
goals of Qatar Airways may be attained with the help of the company's strategic plan.
Leadership is dedicated to this goal, as seen by its efforts to grow the business and purchase
new planes. Careful management and quality assurance are two of Qatar Airways' top
priorities, so that its passengers may always fly in comfort and confidence (
Kucsera, 2021).
The airline is able to reliably meet its primary operational KPIs because of its consistent
management practises and guiding philosophies. There has to be more research done to find
out what keeps shareholders and employees happy. It's great that Qatar Airways has become
more efficient, but it's just as important that its workers know they're appreciated.
The success of an airline is directly tied to the quality of its staff; thus, it is crucial to treat
them with respect. The airline's decision to prioritise passenger happiness is consistent with
its core principles (
Hasoh et al., 2021). Management practises that highlight offering good
service, paying close attention to detail, and personalising the travel experience for each
customer are indicative of an airline that places a high value on its customers. The trust and
cooperation that serves as the foundation of our airline also supports our commitment to
employee input. Qatar Airways places a premium on worker wellness as a means of
encouraging teamwork and retaining customers. Management practises must be in line with
sustainability goals since the aviation industry's environmental effect is under greater scrutiny
than ever before (
Tunali, 2022).

Qatar Airways has taken some measures in this regard, including the acquisition of more fuel-
efficient planes, and the company may take it further by incorporating additional sustainable
policies and processes into its operational decision-making. Take steps to reduce waste, learn
about and investigate renewable energy options, and work with others to propel sustainable
innovation. Qatar Airways' management is on track with the company's declared aims and
purposes, while there is need for improvement in a few strategic areas (
Hamad MA Fetais et
al., 2021). Increased staff involvement, the implementation of sustainable practises, a laser-
like focus on customers, and a persistent re-evaluation of the airline's purpose and values are
all possibilities for maintaining the company's present market supremacy.
Qatar Airways demonstrates its dedication to openness and transparency by providing a
platform for influential companies to submit their ideas and by carefully evaluating those
statements throughout the whole strategy creation process. This exemplifies our firm's
commitment to offering first-rate service and building long-term partnerships with our
patrons. The corporation understands that in order to become the most well-known airline in
the world, it must make an investment in its workers' personal and professional growth
(
Baxter, 2023). In dealing with many stakeholders, including customers, workers, suppliers,
government regulators, and shareholders, management has shown a willingness and capacity
to adapt. Several government measures may be responsible for the region's overwhelming
acceptance. The amazing success of Qatar Airways may likely be attributed to the airline's
management practises that are in keeping with the company's vision and guiding principles.
The company's executives are dedicated to maintaining the airline's original principles. A
greater emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance, increased attempts to increase
customer contentment, a shift in focus from high management to lower-level workers, and
better coordination among the company's various stakeholders are all contributing factors to
the airline's success (
Lebel, 2019). Management in Doha has done a fantastic job of steering
Qatar Airways towards its ultimate goal of being the best international airline in the world.
Task 2 – Analysis of Business Challenges
Key challenges that Qatar Airways is encountering in the current environment
Qatar Airways, a notable entity within the global airline business, is currently facing
significant competition and rapid development within the sector. The airline is widely
recognised and has achieved notable success; nonetheless, it is presently confronted with a
range of significant challenges that need prompt attention from competent leadership.
7 |
P a g e
Competitive market environment
Since there are so many different airlines to choose from, the industry is very competitive.
Qatar Airways faces stiff competition in the regions where it flies. They face the most likely
competition from Emirates and Etihad airlines. In order to stand out from its rivals, Qatar
Airways must continue to increase its worldwide footprint and offer superior service at
competitive pricing (
Wang, 2021). Passenger demand and airline profitability have suffered
due to regional geopolitical instability and local conflicts, according to the CAPA Aviation
Centre. The airline's market competitiveness will improve as a result of this.
Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 epidemic resulted in significant disruptions and a sharp decline in passenger
demand, leading to a profound impact on the worldwide aviation business. Numerous
airlines, including Qatar Airways, are now grappling with a range of challenges such as flight
delays, travel restrictions, and a decline in reservations (
Wood, 2022). The airline was
compelled to swiftly implement modifications in order to safeguard the well-being of its
passengers and alleviate the adverse economic consequences resulting from declining ticket
revenues and increasing operational costs. According to the International Air Transport
Association (IATA), there was a significant decline of 79.4 percent in the demand for air
travel in the Middle Eastern region from 2019 to 2020 (
Wood, 2022).
The acquired understanding of the challenges faced by Qatar Airways throughout the
epidemic enables us to acknowledge and value the company's resilience.
Workforce management
Qatar Airways needs to improve its management of its diverse workforce if it is to continue
its fast expansion and maintain a consistently high level of service quality. Recruiting and
keeping qualified employees, such as pilots and flight attendants, is difficult in today's highly
competitive aviation sector. Showing real interest in employees outside life is one way to
keep them around.
Glassdoor evaluations from current and former Qatar Airways employees show a wide
variety of perspectives on the company's management style and emphasis on work-life
balance (
Martorell i Gil, 2022). Airlines must take the initiative to address these issues if they
want to keep their employees interested and committed to their profession.

P a g e
Sustainability and environmental issues
The airline sector is currently facing mounting pressure to enhance its environmental
performance and promote wider sustainability goals. The development of environmentally
friendly practises and the purchasing of fuel-efficient aircraft have assuaged concerns over
the company's environmental effect. The airline's efforts to address its environmental issues
have failed to assuage the apprehensions of its shareholders, regulators, and consumers
(
Babra, 2021). The International Council for Clean Transportation (ICCT) has identified a
correlation between the carbon dioxide emissions of aircraft and the phenomenon of global
warming.
Organisation’s current management competency of Creativity and Innovation
Executives at Qatar Airways are being urged to think outside the box in order to solve the
airline's pressing issues. In order to thrive in today's fast-paced, competitive business
environment, companies must demonstrate their ability to think creatively and strategically.
The current leadership of Qatar Airways may be able to harness the company's competitive
edge and the management team's wealth of expertise to find novel approaches to the
challenges the airline now faces (
Theodoropoulou, 2019).
Demonstrated creativity and innovation in a competitive corporate environment:
If the airline appreciates and rewards its employees' inventiveness, it may see an increase in
customer loyalty, new product ideas, and service quality. Managers may encourage creative
problem-solving by holding brainstorming sessions, encouraging cooperation across
departments, and giving credit to employees for out-of-the-box thinking (
Perčević et al.,
2020). This might result in aggressive pricing strategies, open lines of communication with
customers, and innovative approaches to providing services, all of which would be to Qatar
Airways' advantage.
Pandemic Response: An Opportunity for Creativity and Innovation:
In light of the dynamic changes occurring within the sector, Qatar Airways may consider
using innovative tactics for experimentation. Potential future developments encompass
entering the freight transportation industry, adapting aircraft for commercial transportation
purposes, and creating vacation packages tailored to certain destinations. The implementation
of digital technology and contactless services is expected to provide benefits for Qatar

Airways in terms of enhanced passenger security and improved customer satisfaction (
Coline,
2021).
Using one's imagination and ingenuity to overcome obstacles brought on by
physical location:
If it is unable to extend its route network and alleviate the consequences of airspace limits
through its present alliances and partnerships, Qatar Airways may consider forming new
ones. There is more leeway for managers to try out novel approaches to growth, such as
focusing on and nurturing a niche clientele. Qatar Airways can better respond to geopolitical
problems and capture strategic opportunities if it fosters a growth mindset and a culture of
innovation. Improved methods of managing employees: Managers may be able to boost
productivity, employee satisfaction, and morale by cultivating an atmosphere that fosters
creative thinking. Morale, collaboration, and creativity might all rise as a result (
Akmalin,
2019).
Use of imagination and originality to find solutions to environmental problems:
Qatar Airways is actively engaging in research and development (R&D) endeavours with the
aim of expediting the advancement and broad use of ecologically sustainable technology,
such as biofuels and energy-efficient aircraft. Managers may contribute to sustainability
projects through several means, including as implementing recycling programmes, reducing
waste production, and enhancing environmental consciousness among both workers and
consumers (
Abeza et al., 2020). Qatar Airways has the potential to contribute to
environmental preservation and enhance its competitive position by assuming a pioneering
role in the realm of airline industry's environmental stewardship.
Improvements Qatar Airways management need to implement in their
management competency of Decision-making
Every manager's most valuable skill is the ability to make sound decisions that boost the
company's bottom line. In order to maintain its position as a global leader, Qatar Airways
must adapt its decision-making procedures to the industry's constant change and growing
complexity.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
: The intellect and diversity of the group will
increase if appropriate stakeholders are included. The upper echelons of Qatar Airways
should seek to open up more lines of communication to encourage more cooperation and the
10 |
P a g e
free flow of ideas (
Albasoos et al., 2021). The organisation could probably use some input
from those working in customer service, pilots, and other departments.
Enhanced Data-driven Approach
: Qatar Airways needs to improve its data-driven approach
if it is to make sound decisions. The airline must invest heavily in data analytics and create
new systems to gather, examine, and decipher data from a wide variety of sources. Predictive
modelling is a type of advanced analytics that may provide useful insights to company
executives about market changes and operational effectiveness.
Decision-making Streamlining:
In order to enhance the efficiency and precision of its
decision-making process, Qatar Airways may find it advantageous to adopt a standardised
approach. The intricate nature and bureaucratic procedures inside an organisation might
impede effective communication and the ability to make critical choices (
Kempel and
Himpel, 2023). The establishment of decentralised decision-making procedures, the
delegation of greater authority to managers, and the reduction of bureaucratic processes may
facilitate the development of a corporate culture that prioritises responsiveness and agility
inside the airline.
Continuous Learning and Development:
In order to make better business judgements, the
upper echelons of Qatar Airways should foster a culture of continual education within the
management team. An investment by the airline in programmes that teach young people to
think critically and morally is warranted (
Kapar and Buigut, 2020). By providing managers
with proper resources, training, and possibility for advancement, Qatar Airways may be able
to influence management decision-making that is compatible with the company's stated
purposes and values.
Task 3 - Management Behaviours of Emotional Intelligence
Qatar Airways' management approach to Emotional Intelligence within their
management practice
Cultivating emotional intelligence may be advantageous for those at various levels of
management and leadership within an organisation. Self-awareness, critical thinking, and
exemplary implementation are all components of this overarching notion. The senior
management of Qatar Airways recognises the importance of emotional acuity as a
fundamental requirement for effective communication (
Iyayi et al., 2020). The success of the
airline is contingent upon the management' capacity to cultivate a culture that prioritises the
needs and satisfaction of customers.
11 |
P a g e
The use of emotional intelligence training would yield significant benefits for the
management and staff members of Qatar Airways. Participation in workshops, seminars, and
mentoring programmes has the potential to enhance the development of social, emotional,
and self-aware competence. The potential advantages for the airline company in offering
emotional intelligence training to its staff include enhanced productivity, improved
operational effectiveness, and increased customer satisfaction (
Jones, 2020). The training
programme provides staff employees with several advantages, such as heightened levels of
client satisfaction and the ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations.
There exists a significant level of association between these phenomena. Leaders that exhibit
high levels of emotional intelligence are more likely to effectively motivate their teams,
foster good interpersonal ties among employees, and successfully transform negative
conflicts into productive resolutions (
Mifsud, 2022). Qatar Airways is required to implement
a programme aimed at assessing and enhancing the emotional intelligence of its leaders.
Leaders that possess the ability to inspire and influence the emotions and thoughts of their
subordinates have the potential to enhance both the overall morale and productivity inside the
company.
Emotional intelligence and consumer experience
: Qatar Airways, which places a
premium on satisfied passengers, would do well to promote the importance of
emotional intelligence at work. Emotionally intelligent workers are more attuned to
the nuances of their customers' experiences and better equipped to meet their specific
demands (
Fetais et al., 2020). The airline industry is very competitive, therefore it's
important that Qatar Airways equips its staff with the resources they need to maintain
their composure and deliver outstanding customer service.
Well-being development through emotional intelligence:
Raising morale and
productivity on the job requires working on one's emotional intelligence. Taking care
of their employees' mental health should be a primary concern for Qatar Airways'
management. To get there, we need to encourage a healthy work-life balance,
cultivate direct lines of contact, and provide room for the free exchange of ideas.
Managers need education on how to care for their staff's mental health in order to
create a positive work environment (
Hamad MA Fetais et al., 2021). When employees
feel appreciated at work, they are more inclined to go above and beyond in their
efforts to help the company succeed.

Emotional intelligence in conflict resolution
: When individuals congregate, it is
inevitable that arguments will arise. Nevertheless, it is worth considering that
implementing a management approach that prioritises emotional intelligence (EQ)
attributes such as empathy and conflict resolution might potentially provide
advantages for Qatar Airways. Effective managers possess the essential qualities of
analytical thinking, proficient communication skills, and attentive listening abilities. If
Qatar Airways prioritises emotional intelligence (EQ) in its attempts to resolve
disputes, it might potentially mitigate the negative impact that internal conflicts have
on staff morale and productivity (
Theodoropoulou, 2019).
Emotional intelligence has a potential impact on promoting high levels of
employee engagement and organizational performance
There exists a requirement for enhancement within Qatar Airways pertaining to leadership,
staff development, employee engagement and well-being, customer service, and emotional
intelligence in conflict resolution. The aforementioned measures would facilitate the
incorporation and amplification of emotional intelligence within the organisational setting. In
the context of the fiercely competitive aerospace industry, enhancing organisational
performance and fostering customer loyalty may exert a substantial influence on a company's
financial performance (
Wood, 2022).
Enhanced Relationship Building and Communication
: Leaders who are emotionally
intelligent are more likely to motivate their teams and persuade key stakeholders to support
their vision. Managers with high levels of emotional intelligence are better able to understand
their employees' views and requirements. When employees are treated with dignity, gratitude,
and honesty, they are more likely to go the extra mile for the company (
Kucsera, 2021).
Employees are more willing to go above and beyond when they know their job is appreciated
and essential to the success of the company as a whole.
Effective Conflict Management
: Conflicts in the workplace are unavoidable, how they are
addressed may have a major impact on morale and output. Managers that are emotionally
intelligent are more likely to be able to perceive things from several perspectives at once,
making them more equipped to handle and resolve problems. They are skilled at considering
opposing viewpoints and arriving at agreements that satisfy all parties. This strategy
improves productivity in the long run by fostering cooperation, decreasing workplace
conflict, and raising morale. Job happiness and the quality of service provided to clients are
both influenced by employees' EQ (
Fetais et al., 2020). Employees with a high emotional
13 |
P a g e
quotient are compassionate and eager to go the additional mile to satisfy customers. They are
pros at settling disputes, soothing irate customers, and delivering personalised care. It is
interactions like this that will secure Qatar Airways' longevity and keep its present customers
coming back for more.
Innovation and Adaptability:
Managers with a high level of emotional intelligence are better
equipped to deal with uncertainty and foster an environment within their teams that fosters
creativity from within. It has been acknowledged that adjustments are required to
accommodate market demands and customers' evolving preferences. The organisation
encourages an atmosphere where employees may be open and honest with one another and
with management. The company's willingness to try new things and listen to its consumers
has helped it thrive in a competitive sector (
Petcu, 2021).
Task 4 - Management competencies development
Qatar Airways' values and critically assess the extent to which they reflect any 2
of the management competencies
Qatar Airways is highly esteemed throughout the airline industry as a result of its steadfast
dedication to excellence and emphasis on delivering great customer service. The primary
objective of this study is to evaluate the alignment between Qatar Airways' stated
management philosophy and its actual implementation in terms of resilience and stakeholder
relationship management (
Sulistya and Ginaya, 2020).
Managing Resilience
A corporation that possesses resilience is capable of maintaining optimal operational
performance even in the face of adverse circumstances. The long-term success of Qatar
Airways hinges on the prioritisation of team resilience throughout its whole workforce. Qatar
Airways places a high priority on the pursuit of quality, the satisfaction of its customers, and
the continual advancement of its operations. The CVF encompasses societies that adhere to
the Clan, Adhocracy, Hierarchy, and Market modes of structure. Qatar Airways acknowledges
the market's emphasis on intense competition and continuous enhancement, with a primary
focus on meeting consumer expectations (
Kucsera, 2021).
The accompanying variables can be employed to ascertain the extent to which resilience
management is strongly embedded into the organisational culture of Qatar Airways:
14 |
P a g e
Flexibility and agility:
The capacity to promptly adjust to evolving conditions is
evidence of resilience. Qatar Airways is likely to possess adaptability due to its strong
focus on innovation. This illustrates the organization's commitment to periodically
evaluating its strategy and procedures in order to accommodate market advancements.
Learning and Growth:
The employees of companies that are able to weather storms
are provided with numerous opportunities to learn new skills and advance in their
careers, since these firms are resilient enough to weather any storm. Qatar Airways is
a model of a company that embraces continuous improvement because of its core
values (
Chiambaretto and Wassmer, 2019). By offering its employees a variety of
training and education programmes, Qatar Airways shows that it values its employees'
growth and development.
In order to effectively manage resilience, Qatar Airways places a priority on operational
efficiency and continuous development. Case study exemplifies Qatar Airways' commitment
to quality and ongoing effort to provide the finest customer service in the business.
Continuous attempts to boost productivity, simplify processes, and deliver superior service
demonstrate the company's commitment to its customers.
These successes are evidence of the airline's resilience and capacity to thrive in the face of
intense competition. Due to the company's solid financial standing, Qatar Airways is in a
position to invest in cutting-edge technology, broaden its route network, and ride out industry
storms (
Kucsera, 2021). By providing a positive and secure workplace, Qatar Airlines is able
to attract and retain employees who are dedicated to the company's success. Employees that
are highly motivated through rewards and training are more likely to be flexible in the face of
change, resilient in the face of adversity, and attentive to the needs of their customers.
Managing Stakeholder Relationships
In order to maintain the financial stability and prosperity of your organisation, it is imperative
to diligently prioritise the requirements and desires of your stakeholders. These perspectives
align with the stakeholder theory, which emphasises the need of addressing the interests of a
wider range of stakeholders beyond only shareholders (
Tunali, 2022). To get insight into the
level of importance Qatar Airways places on stakeholder relationship management, an
examination of their guiding principles may be undertaken.
Customer satisfaction
: When it comes to serving its customers, Qatar Airways is
always looking for ways to improve. This indicates an awareness of the need of

connecting with consumers on an emotional level and providing service that goes
above and beyond what they anticipate (
Hamad MA Fetais et al., 2021). Qatar
Airways demonstrates their commitment to stakeholder relationship management by
placing a focus on customer satisfaction.
Integrity and ethical conduction:
The aforementioned principle is fundamental to the
operations of the airline. This demonstrates your commitment to maintaining
transparency and integrity in your interactions with your constituents. When Qatar
Airways demonstrates a high level of integrity, it garners the respect and trust of its
employees, customers, and the local communities in which it operates. The
relationships that are established may develop in intensity and exhibit mutual
advantages (
Baxter, 2023).
The capacity of a management team to understand and respond to the requirements of a wide
range of constituencies is highly valued by Qatar Airways. The company's commitment to
these ideals is seen in its emphasis on innovation, customer service, and moral business
practises. Qatar Airways' ability to adapt to the modern business environment depends on
how well it internalises these notions (
Lebel, 2019). Qatar Airways must do a better job of
incorporating these abilities into its management plans if it is to maintain its position as a
global leader.
Qatar Airways is committed to the personal and professional growth of its employees in order
to maintain its excellent service record. The airline values its relationships with its vendors
and prefers to sign multi-year contracts with them wherever feasible. Since it operates within
the law and makes tax-deductible contributions to the economy, Qatar Airways enjoys close
relations to the government (
Wang, 2021). Through corporate social responsibility (CSR)
programmes including environmental sustainability and community participation, Qatar
Airways is able to enhance its ties to key constituents.
Conclusion
The study suggests that Qatar Airways' leadership may be responsible for the company's
success. The success of Qatar Airways may be attributed to two main elements. Because of
this, Qatar Airways' fleet has expanded, raising the company's profile and propelling it to the
top of the airline sector worldwide. If Qatar Airways wants to keep being the top airline in the
world, it will have to overcome a number of challenges. Aviation is having trouble staying
profitable because of the economy and the proliferation of similar enterprises. Airline

companies already face significant challenges, and tense international ties only make matters
worse.
The government might use some team-based problem-solving strategies and data-driven
decision-making tools. Experts continue to argue about whether of these weapons has been
more successful in the ongoing fight. New methods of collaboration may be the key to
accelerating progress. A company's culture that recognises and appreciates its employees is
crucial to its success, especially in trying economic times. Having supportive family and
friends near by may be a huge boost to morale during tough times.
