The Food And Beverage Service
1. Introduction The Food and Beverage service wraps the knowledge, technique and skills essential
for those studying and working at different levels in the food and beverage sector. The operations in
this department are constantly improving and developing over the years together with progress in
the quality as per the ever changing customer needs and industry demands. The long established
perspective of food and beverage service was considered as just a delivery process with customer
being recognized as a pliant recipient of service. But now, the vision has changed to a much broader
and wider extent. The customer is now seen as a prime center to the process and has an active
participation in it. Accordingly, to identify the guest's expectations has become very critical for the
success of this industry.

It describes the operations in the department, not only restricted to the service but also to the
components which lead to a good and perfect service. It identifies the various processes such as
CCG handling, napkin folding, table– set ups, reservation process and finally the service styles and
techniques. It also focuses on the importance of all these processes in the sector and what roles do
these perform in the successful operating of the

Reflection About Service
Service is a work of will. Throughout our lives, we complete service that may be unknown to us.
Service does not always mean doing things for a time frame for a signed paper to turn into school,
but service could mean even the smaller things from helping an injured student to their classroom or
offering help to a teacher carrying too many things. Throughout my almost three years at DePaul
College Prep, I have completed my service requirements, but I also found the things I did enjoyable;
I did not feel forced to do most of the service that I did. I would really like to believe the service that
I completed helped others, along with the community, but the more important aspect of the service
completed was that it opened my eyes to a greater good and allowed me to give more of myself to
others than to focus solely on myself.
My freshman year was kind of a blur. Most of the things that happened that year seemed to have
faded away mostly because it was the easiest year, so far, that I had experienced. If I do recall
correctly, I did my service by helping out the elementary girls volleyball leagues held at the
gymnasium at my high school
. This was known as the Spring Little League, and there, I helped to
referee a couple games, and I also helped with admissions and scores. I was able to offer my time
and efforts to these young girls playing, along with my own Coach, Coach Tony. I learned that
everything was better with numbers. I was helping out Coach Tony with my whole team, and

Community Service Effectiveness
The efficiency of service can be looked at from multiple angles. Does the motive behind service
lessen its effectiveness? Effective service refers to benefits communities gain when individuals
volunteer. I will be exploring effective service in this paper by evaluating the net benefit to a
community and its lasting impact on the individual performing mandatory versus voluntary service.
I was drawn to this topic after listening to Tovia Smith's podcast, 'Selfish' Giving: Does It Count If
You Get In Return?. Smith interviews many professionals on their opinion on service and concludes
that service done for personal gain is effective service. While Smith agrees that high school students
completing service for an award is mandatory service, the Center for Justice and Reconciliation in
the article, Community Service
, defines mandatory community service as restorative justice for
offenders. The Center for Justice and Reconciliation leads a reader to believe that offenders doing
community service are no different than when a high school student does it for a college application.
High school students partake in mandatory community service for college applications while
offenders volunteer in order to get a lighter sentence for a crime. High school students use service to
get into college while offenders use service to make amends with the community they have harmed.
Both Smith and the Center for Justice and Reconciliation agree that service is good regardless of
motivation. While

"Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless." – Sherry
Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community
service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it.
Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by
someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently
compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an
alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities
since they depend on the service made by the volunteers

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend
through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about
volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life,
since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering
has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that
12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the
frequent answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to
do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is
not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because
obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are
not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new
subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming
more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early
19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening
was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

What Does Service Mean To You Essay
I've grown up with the influence of strong women in my life, a lot of which came from my sisters.
One of my sisters was a member of National Honors Society and she always taught me in the ways
to conduct myself like a member would. So growing up I would always try to be the best person I
could be whether that means by studying my hardest, leading the way for my peers and other
generations, doing good deeds for others, or building my character. I would try to tie in the values to
make me as unique and individual as I could. Service is something that every person does in their
life. I try to do as much service as I can, which means a lot of my service is in the summer or while
school in on breaks. While service can be done through organizations and for well–known causes,
service is also seen in everyday life. Service can be through small acts of kindness, such as, holding
open the door, helping someone who's carrying a particularly heavy load, or simply just being there
when they need a shoulder to lean on. Service is about making someone day brighten with little rays
of kindness and to show that someone out there definitely cares for them. Acts of service always
created a desire in me to help make people's lives better. People often put forth their best

Why I Need Community Service
Imagine struggling to afford the 'mandatory' three meals you're supposed to consume a day. It would
be hard and stressful right? I met over one hundred hungry people that have to feel this emotion
every day of their life, struggling to provide enough food to make a meal, fulfill their hunger, and
stay healthy. On October 17th my senior year of high school I volunteered at a place called "Broad
Street Ministry" a Christian based community church. They have many community service
opportunities that you can get involved with. I helped with feeding the homeless or those who
cannot afford to eat. A teacher at my high school introduced me to this opportunity and I took away
a lot of memories I will cherish with this event.
On October 17th myself and five other students loaded a van with our health teacher and headed off
to Philadelphia. Personally, I volunteered with this event just for community service hours at first
but after I left the event I walked away with more than just some hours that I could write on paper, I
walked away with life lessons and a heavy heart. We got off the bus at our destination around 9:00
AM to help set up the equipment we were using for the day. As we set everything up I thought that
we overdid it because we many tables pushed together forming a long line each table full of food
followed by coolers of soda and water. After we got done setting up we had a brief meeting with a
head leader of the Broad Street Ministry simply thanking us and giving us a run down of the day. I
didn't think the event would last too long and no way there would be that many people coming to get
food. I put on the mandatory clothing items we had to wear and got in my place to help out. Noon is
when everything started and people started forming a line with plates in hand. More and more
people got in the line and eventually we opened everything up to start serving people. By the time
we started serving there had to be at least 100 people in line, I have only ever saw this happen on
TV or in magazines, never personally. There was such a diverse group of people that came to this
event. I noticed the way each persons face lit up when they filled their plate with what they were
served, even if they did

Essay about Service Recovery
In providing services to the customers, service recovery is a missing element. The effective service
recovery process attracts customers as well as leaves a positive impact on them. Process of service
recovery brings customers from their bad feelings and perceptions to the positive edge. Effective
service recovery process is a major element in maintaining customer's satisfaction and loyalty. (John
Tschohl)
The service recovery means the service provider taking some effective actions or steps to avoid
losses or dissatisfied customers, to change their bad feeling and negative perceptions about the
services provided to them, and at the end service providers convert these dissatisfy customers in to
satisfy. In the process of service

Quality of services is very important in the process of service recovery. Total quality management
process helps a lot in building customers satisfaction and their relationships with the organization.
(Pearson, J. Michael)
Customer satisfaction is also of great importance in the process of service recovery and it is
considered as an important thing in the process of building customer and organization relationship.
Satisfaction level can be measured through a process that whether the perceptions of the customers
are meeting their expectations or not. If they meet it means that the customers are fully satisfied and
if it does not meet, it means that customers are not satisfied with the available services. Customer
satisfaction and their retention is a major element for the service providing organizations.
Companies are too much interested in retaining available customers while targeting non–customers;
measuring customer satisfaction provides a way how successful the association is at providing
goods and/or services to the marketplace. Customer satisfaction is a vague and theoretical concept
and the real expression of the condition of satisfaction will differ from person to person and
goods/service to goods/service. (Ishfaq Ahmed1, Shafiq Gul2, Umer Hayat3, Mohammad Qasim).
Customer satisfaction is the most usually used study in marketing. Customer

Essay about Service Marketing
Introduction
In an ideal situation, customers would not have to wait for the delivery of products and services.
However, in the real world, organizations cannot always match exact capability and demand;
therefore, waiting is frequently inevitable while purchasing, especially in service marketing
, as
service firms can barely inventory their "stock" for sale at a later date (Lovelock, 1992, p.154). In
general, waiting in lines – known as "queuing", happens when the number of customers arrive at a
facility exceeds the capability of the system to serve them (Lovelock & Wirtz, 2011, p.260).
Basically, this essay will state the relationship between queuing and customer satisfaction, as well as
relationship between customer satisfaction and

When the consumer is waiting alone and have nothing to do, especially in an unfamiliar facility, the
feeling of boring, uncertain about waiting time, stress and anxiety will be increasingly enlarged with
time passing. Queuing also seems more burdensome if people feel physically uncomfortable.
Moreover, because of a fear of "been forgotten", the senses of "get started" of customers are fervent.
It is claimed that the anxiety level is much higher while waiting to be served than it is while being
served, even though the latter queuing will be longer (Lovelock & Wirtz, 2011, p.267; Maister,
1985).
Unpleasant waiting experience might accompany with customers go through the whole service
process, which could lower the overall evaluation of service quality easily. Not only the queuing
experience, a number of studies also investigated that queuing time in a service organization
significantly influences consumer satisfaction. In general, increasing in waiting time is associated
with decreasing in customer satisfaction (Katz, M.Larson & C.Larson, 1991). The graph (Dube,
Renaghan & Miller, 1994) below shows the effect of waiting time on customer satisfaction in
restaurant industry, and suggests that most consumers do not satisfied if the waiting time is longer
than 8 minutes. In addition, another study (Jones & Dent, 1994) examined that 70% of respondents
considered waiting time as a major

Research Paper On Selective Service
POSITION PAPER
ON
REQUIRING WOMEN TO REGISTER FOR SELECTIVE SERVICE
1. The purpose of this paper is to cover why women should be required to register for Selective
Service. This paper will weigh the reasons why women should or should not be required to register
for Selective Service then determine the appropriate course of action.
2. To illustrate the reason why women should be required to register for selective service, recent
updates to military policy allowing women to fill roles they were previously barred from has started
the process of gender equality policy in the military. Women are now able to fill roles in direct
ground combat after Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta ended the ground combat rule exclusion for
female service members.1 In 1998, the question of Selective Service enrollment was posed by
Senator Charles Robb as a member of the Subcommittee on Readiness and Senate Armed Services
Committee to the General Accounting Office (GAO).2 The response by the GAO was that women
should not have to register due to that fact women were restricted from direct ground combat roles.
With this restriction now removed, women should

To counter the argument of women being required to register for Selective Service, there are still
several examples in our current military environment to support this. In the Air Force alone, the
physical fitness standards for men and women are drastically different for what is required to serve.3
If the branches of service will not hold gender standards in physical fitness and performance in
equal regard, why should women be required to register for Selective Service? Additionally, the
Selective Service law currently contains verbiage that male persons must register and in order for
women to be included, Congress would have to change the law.4 Furthermore, in 1981, in the case
of Rostker v. Goldberg, the Supreme Court maintained the position that "registering only men does
not violate the due process law of the

Argumentative Essay On Service Animals
Author Anthony Douglas Williams once said, "We have more to learn from animals than animals
have to learn from us," (A–Z Quotes), but what most people fail to assimilate is that animals have
given humans erudition on many subjects. Throughout history, animals have helped with
advancements in science, contributing to new ideas to keep people safe and healthy. Moreover, they
continue to help humankind every second of the day, and will continue to do so as science and
technology evolve.
A multitude of traits qualifies animals to work as service animals. The variety of types of service
animals are Assistance Animals, Psychiatric Service Dogs, Emotional Support Animals, and
Therapy Animals (Amundson). They are sometimes labeled as assistance animals,

Customer Service For Health Care
Customer Service in Health Care Customer services is a very important part of managing ongoing
client/patient relationships, because they are the key to bringing in revenue. The concept of
customer service is to deliver outstanding services so the customers will have a great experience. I
currently work in the healthcare industry and the company that I work for is starting to have
trainings and meetings to improve customer service to our clients to help increase our patient
satisfaction levels. There are some employees who strive to help the patient by going far and beyond
their line of duties, and as others are burned out and feel like they just need to get the patient in and
out without really understanding the patient's needs or

This will help with revenue and keeping their business growing. Customer service is kind of
different in healthcare. Even though healthcare professionals do their jobs and take care of their
patient's needs, customer satisfaction has never really been a must. It is usually understood, do the
minimum and get them in and out of the office and on to the next patient. We all know that when
patients get sick they usually do not want to go to the doctor but they know it is a necessity. Since it
is not an option, but a necessity; patients sometimes feel they do not deserve superior treatment.
Now that there's a patient satisfaction survey this will change the way customer service works due to
the patient 's rating their experience. Therefore, the hospitals have to step up their game and set
different rules. There needs to be many changes made from communication between staff, the
quality of care, and the patient 's visit with the healthcare provider in order to increase their ratings. I
would like to share a couple of examples showing good customer service and bad customer service.
Good customer service– A homeless man comes into a public health clinic, and he needs to have
services so that he is able to stay in the shelter later on that evening. The clerk assists the patient by

Essay about Service Before Self
English Composition/ Illustration Final Draft
Service Before Self
The day I finally signed up to join the military I knew I was taking a risk in my life. I believe it is
important to take risks in life to move into bigger and better things. My first huge decision I made in
my life was to join the United States Air Force
. My uncle was the main person who put the idea in
my head but my dad and my friends thought otherwise. My parents were divorced when I was
young and I didn't have the privilege like my friends to sit down and talk their decisions through
with their parents. My father was excluded from the draft after he got in a car accident and I didn't

what they were doing and couldn't wait to get their first home base and continue with their career.
Each airman felt that they had made a great decision with their life and were looking forward to
serving their country. The Air Force has many great benefits to offer to its soldiers. The option to
build an education fund called the Montgomery GI bill. Free Medical, food, clothing and housing,

Serving in the military you learn to have a great respect to others and yourself. As soon as you get

Service Industry : An Industry Essay
2.1 Service industry Service industry is an industry that creates services. In economy, economic
activity are divided into two categories which are goods and services. Goods–producing industries
provide tangible object namely mining, manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. Service
industries include other activities apart from goods–producing industries such as wholesale, retail
trade, banking and communications. In developed countries service industry plays an important role
in the economy while primary activities, for example, agriculture and mining are dominant in less–
developed countries' economy. (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2015.) Since the beginning
of the 1990s, service industry has created enormous growth of employment in Europe especially in
commerce and distribution, welfare services, finance and business services and hotels and catering.
In the early 21st century, more than three–fifths of the global GDP are generated from service
industries and more than one–third of the labor force worldwide are working in this industry. (The
Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2015). It can be seen that service has gradually become a
crucial element in the success of organizations. The emergence of electronic business opens
opportunity to the world and intensifies competition in markets. Consequently, there is a need for
service reliability. Technology has a huge impact on service revolution. At present, service are
commoditized providing efficiency and

Customer Service Essay examples
Companies are misguided nowadays by the notion that customers depend on them, when the truth of
the matter is that companies are dependent on those customers. Customer satisfaction and customer
loyalty is now essential for a business or company to survive. So what is the difference between
customer satisfaction and customer loyalty and how to companies and or business achieve this? Also
when you have difficult customers how do you achieve customer satisfaction?
It's essential that companies or businesses today listen to their customers. No company or business
today can afford to disregard the importance of customer satisfaction and loyalty. Aren't they the
same thing? No, they are absolutely not and they are enormously
...show more content...
Customer loyalty is much harder to obtain that customer service satisfaction. The most important
first step is to satisfy the customer by meeting their expectations. Customers only give a company
one chance and if they aren't satisfied they will not do business with that company again, as well as
tell others of their experience. The next step would be to exceed the customer's expectations. If a
business goes above and beyond to assist the customer they begin to build loyalty. The next step is
to truly surprise the customer. In order to dominate the marketplace the company must find a way to
make them selves stand out with their product or service, accompanied with phenomenal customer
service. Once this has been done customer satisfaction and loyalty will be gained. "Acquiring a new
customer can cost four or five times more than keeping a current customer" (Bestmark, 2013). So
it's essential to keep the current customer's happy and coming back for more.
Some of the ways that businesses can build loyalty would be by offering loyalty programs,
Interacting with customers, surveys, creating institutional ties, and personalized marketing
. Another
way to build loyalty is to treat your employees so well that they treat your customers well. If you
have happy employees they will treat your customers happy. "The link between satisfaction and
loyalty however is not proportional" (Kotler, Keller, 2009, p71), so businesses must

Importance of Customer Service Essay example
Importance of Customer Service
Introduction
Today's organizations fail to realize the value of their customers when it comes to the success of
their business. Without customer loyalty the success of your business will always be uncertain.
Organizations must sensitively tailor the designs of a successful firm to the particular challenges of
understanding, attracting, and keeping valuable customers. "Having satisfied customers just aren't
good enough". Kenneth Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles, co–authors of Raving Fans, believe this
concept is needed to have a successful business. I agree with this concept of customers being the
focal point of any business. I would want more than just a satisfied customer; I want a "Raving

bugs and keep doing what ever it takes to make this vision come alive. Start out with something
small that you know you can maintain and be consistent with it. Once you have mastered that idea,
add to it, make it better by just one percent. Continue to do this with each new idea, always
producing better ideas by one percent. This way the customer is not promised something that you
will not deliver and you're not promising something too big or complex to consistently follow
through with. Consistency is critical; it creates credibility.
Conclusion
I have always believed customers are the focal point of any business. I found that having satisfied

The Meaning of Service Essay
The Meaning of Service
Service is a word used constantly. The word service has an impression on many people. For
example; people who work as lifeguards view their work as a service to the community. Naturally,
based on working as a lifeguard their definition of service would be an action beneficial to the well–
being of others. Not surprisingly, a similar definition was found in the Oxford English Dictionary
(OED). Service is described in the Oxford English Dictionary as "the action of serving, helping, or
benefiting; conduct tending to the welfare or advantage of another; condition or employment of a
public servant
; friendly or professional assistance." Furthermore, in Webster's Ninth New Collegiate
Dictionary, service is

A service berry is "any one of various American trees or shrubs of the genus Amelanchier"
(Dictionary of Americanisms). The second definition was one many may not have recognized right
away. Service is "public worship according to form and order" (OED). After people read this they
think, of course! People are always saying "are you going to attend service on Sunday?" Many
immediately think the word service means providing for another and completely forget by attending
mass they are performing a service to a higher being.
Becoming so firmly planted in one definition of service people tend to ignore its other uses. A strong
attachment to one definition or another can be attributed to working as a lifeguard or work with
other programs like YouVote. With YouVote, participants are helping and benefitting others by
providing them with information important to upcoming elections. By providing people with
information it helps them along their way to making an educated decision when they vote. Working
with YouVote has helped to extend the definition of service to all persons who help or serve others
like; waitresses, teachers, lifeguards, doctors, lawyers, coaches, and the government. The
government continuously provides "service" to our country, or at least they try. The many readings
in WRA135 class have shown the government needs to provide more service to those in need like all
those living below the poverty line and/or on

Customer Service Reflective Essay
As part of my improvements to customer service for CPG I came up with several different ideas
which would improve the service. One of these ideas was to place EXPD Tracking Details onto the
Smartsheet. This would benefit the Customer account of Survitec who sent orders out daily via
EXPD. By providing the Tracking Details this would improve service because it would mean that
time would be saved as Survitec could find the information without needing to contact CPG. It
would also allow Survitec to pass this information directly onto the customers. This would mean the
Customer Service Team would be able to deal with Survitec other queries more effectively. I chose
to use the Smartsheet because I knew that it could be utilised by both Internal and External
Customer. However before I was able to implement this idea I had to discuss it

I started by asking Sam and Zanny If they had time available for me to present an idea to them, they
informed me that they did so we undertook this discussion. I was courteous and respectful to my
colleagues as I ensured that it did not disrupt their current tasks. I knew that they were happy to help
me due to their friendly and welcoming tone of voice and their open body language. We undertook
this discussions at our desks as it meant that I was able to demonstrate my idea to them. The column
was placed on the EXPD Carriage Smartsheet (Screenshot–Evidence Folder–Unit 240 EXPD 3). I
let them know that this idea would be valuable to delivering consistent and improved customer
service as it would save us time, Sam and Zanny agreed that it would and asked me to present a
draft of the implementation. I gathered the information that I would need using the Expd.com
website as this allowed me to see the current daily consignments (Screenshot–Evidence Folder–Unit

Service and Leadership Essay
Known to all as the foundation upon which we stand, the helping hands and guiding leaders of our
global society are both the world's tools for progression towards unconditional happiness. Kindled
by religious enthusiasts and community leaders, these aspects of support and guidance are
embedded in families, societies, and the future generations. Service and leadership make up the
thread of our society. In homes, both parents and children can serve and lead. In the public aspect,
advocates of religion
, advisors in community service or social mediators for peace all have the
ability to support and guide the neighborhood. In schools, educators and peers can both help each
other and lead by example. Regardless of how a society functions,

I open up this perspective to my family, so that they may see that service and leadership yields
goodness. Through comical relief and consolation I lead, and through values I serve, helping to
build up my family for this goodness, the more heartwarming experiences in the days to come.
Arms stretched, palms wide open, I dedicate myself to my locals for their needs and wants. I believe
that I am created by my God, as it is stated in my religion. In addition to that belief, I am part of my
God, and since that is so, I am created to create. In my community, I assist in the creation of
environments where locals feel free to accept God and be transformed by Him; as social beings we
are prone to meeting other people, and in meeting other people is the source from which these traits
are formed. I boost my neighbors' morale, by telling them they are greater than what they perceive
themselves as. In my youth group and confirmation classes at my local church, I am an advocate for
my religion. By giving out my knowledge of God to my peers, I enhance their understanding of Him
and our religion, and inspire them to live vicariously of Jesus. I've brought out this positivity
through performing Christian Pop music, leading in bible study, answering questions about
Christianity and bringing peers together in fun activities. All in all, the service and leadership I
provide in my community are both primarily directed towards
