Great job everyone! We have made it!! Best wishes to all in their future endeavors. The only example of personal/professional change is when my current organization went through a physical remodel. Along with the physical remodel, they underwent policies changes to coincide with the new look. The current organization bought stores that went out of business and hired most of the people who had been employed by the other company. Even though the current organization re-trained the employees, they decided to change policies for the better. The communication surrounding the change began strong and tapered off. The management in the store had strong initial support but as time went on, the sustainability of the change became noticeably difficult. Hearing feedback from employees became the eye-opening point where the change needed assistance. The issues came down to unclear communication, lack of sustained support, and not listening to the employees. Based on the change management skills in the course, I would continue the training of the associates (Pollock & Jefferson, 2012). Ensuring that the employees had the support necessary, provide opportunities for associates to utilize their knowledge, and provide sufficient time to learn the new changes (Pollock & Jefferson, 2012). Throughout the change journey, it is important that associates continue to be reminded of the why of the change and are provided opportunities to show what they have learned (Pollock & Jefferson, 2012). John Kotter's eight step change process is a good place to begin to identify the problem, tell others, and do something to fix the issues (Kotter, 2012). In the modern word, we have access to technology that can aid in the continual training of associates (Solis, 2017). The communication regarding any changes would be provided company-wide to ensure all employees are in the know. Training would be continuous to help employees in their positions. Ensuring the sustain of the change would be the end goal and not drop off after the change was initially implemented. After the bulk of this course, I have learned many change management skills that have helped me become a better leader. The most impactful was understanding the impact of communication and the priority of sustaining change. In order to establish the change, it must be told to associates clearly. In professional settings and personal settings, communication is important. Along with prioritizing sustained change, these can be applied to both settings to ensure change is successful. Being able to communicate appropriately with
associates about changes occurring in the workplace is vital. In personal relationships, communicating can make or break relationships. Handling changes as a leader is a constant learning challenge, but utilizing the knowledge gained gives an advantage in the change world. References Pollock, R., & Jefferson, A. (2012).
