RESUME BRAINSTORMING WORKSHEET The first step in starting a resume is to brainstorm. Think of all the opportunities you have had to gain experience and skills, regardless of length of time, whether it was paid, title or responsibilities. Afterwards, reflect on what you achieved in each experience. What did you do and what was the outcome? E.g. Student Government Association – organized events such as Homecoming Dance and Spirit Week. Do not worry now about whether it is the “right” or best experience to include on a resume. This exercise encourages you to be really broad and creative in your thinking. Accept responsibility When I am In a group and someone gave a task to do I would do it. Are there ways to continue to strengthen your top skills? What are those ways? Are there skills you enjoy using, but need to develop confidence in your abilities (those you indicated with an X)? Can you think of ways you can work on those? I enjoy talking to people, but I need to develop confidence in myself so I can be able to talk to many people. The only way I can reach that goal is to step out of my comfort zone and to start talking to a big group of people. Thinking about your top skills, how do you think they could impact an academic or career direction? Because if I didn't know any of these skills I will go to a good job in the future because I need to know how to do these skills. Final Reflection: What small action step might you take as a result of taking this assessment? Update my resume to showcase the above skills Consider an internship or campus leadership role to develop or intentionally practice my skills Take a course (in-person or online) to continue to learn new skills Research career fields I’m considering using www.onetonline.org to see how my skills could be applied Add your own...
