AI – The Next New Thing [WLOs: 1, 4, 5] [CLOs: 3, 4, 5] Prior to beginning this discussion review Chapter 5 of the text. In addition, review the following articles: Artificial Intelligence and Change Management in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: An Analysis of Dynamics within Adaptation Initiatives Links to an external site. Generative AI Is Here: How Tools like ChatGPT Could Change Your Business Links to an external site. Businesses Not Embracing Artificial Intelligence Could Fall Behind, Warns Tech Executive Links to an external site. Managing change is a challenge, especially when everything external to the organization is changing at rapid speed. While an organization should be agile and open to new ideas, it must also be able to distinguish valid options from unproven trends which may lead to potential failure. For this discussion: Research and select one additional article related to AI and its impact on change within the organization. Summarize one of the required articles and your selected article. Explain your interpretation of AI and the impact it is currently having on our organizations. Hypothesize the potential future impact AI might have on the workforce. Explain how an organization would use Woolner’s Five Stage Model to create a proactive vision for new ideas. Your initial post must be at least 300 words in length. Support your post with the text, 2 Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources Links to an external site. , and your selected article. Properly format your references Links to an external site. and cite Links to an external site. each source within the post. Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts during the discussion week. Responses to classmates must be substantive and further the discussion by debating and advancing the key points of their post related to AI. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.
Summary of required article: "Businesses Not Embracing Artificial Intelligence Could Fall Behind, Warns Tech Executive" The article emphasizes the significance of implementing artificial intelligence (AI) programs in day-to-day business activities (Koberg, 2023). Ambereen Toubassy, the CFO of Airtable, asserts that businesses failing to adopt AI risk falling behind, comparing the impact of AI to previous technological advancements like the internet. The CFO suggests potential applications of AI, such as generating job descriptions, naming products, and reviewing legal contracts. Toubassy emphasizes that AI will fundamentally change work over the next 5 years, automating routine tasks and requiring humans to complement AI with creative and strategic thinking. The article dismisses concerns about AI displacing the workforce, citing historical examples of technological shifts creating new jobs. Airtable is presented as an example of a company fully embracing AI in its products and encouraging other businesses to seize the opportunity for innovation and improved outcomes. Summary of selected article: "How Artificial Intelligence Can Improve Organizational Decision Making" This article explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on organizational decision-making (Dordevic, 2023). It underscores the transformative role of AI in boosting innovation, productivity, and agility. The piece outlines the stages of AI evolution, from assisted intelligence (data-driven decision-making) to augmented intelligence (using machine learning to enhance outcomes), and anticipates a future stage of full automation. AI's current benefits, according to Deloitte, include enhancing products, optimizing internal and external operations, freeing workers for creativity, and aiding leaders in better decision-making (“State of AI In the Enterprise 2022”, n.d.). The article highlights AI's role in project management, predicting that by 2030, AI will eliminate 80% of manual project management tasks. It emphasizes the importance of AI adoption by Project Management Offices (PMOs) to shift focus from tactical to strategic decision-making. Explain your interpretation of AI and the impact it is currently having on our organizations. AI is revolutionizing organizations' operations, impacting decision-making, productivity, and innovation. It enables data-driven insights, process automation, and the enhancement of products and services (Karsten et al., 2023). Integrating AI in various business functions is becoming imperative for staying competitive and fostering efficiency. Hypothesize the potential future impact AI might have on the workforce.
In the future, AI will likely automate routine and repetitive tasks, increasing human capabilities in creative and strategic thinking. While concerns about job displacement exist, historical patterns suggest that new job categories will emerge. AI's role in organizational decision-making and project management will evolve, with greater reliance on predictive analytics and automation, transforming traditional job roles and requiring upskilling for the workforce (Fleming, 2020). Explain how an organization would use Woolner's Five Stage Model to create a proactive vision for new ideas. Woolner's Five Stage Model can guide organizations in creating a proactive vision for new ideas related to AI. The stages involve awareness, curiosity, engagement, innovation, and sustainability (Weiss, 2016). Firstly, organizations must become aware of AI's potential and implications. Curiosity prompts exploration and understanding of AI applications. Engagement involves fostering collaboration and learning. Innovation encourages the integration of AI into organizational processes, and sustainability ensures the continuous adaptation and improvement of AI initiatives for long-term success. Good afternoon classmates and Professor, The article that I selected to analyze was, “ Businesses not embracing artificial intelligence could fall behind, warns tech executive” . Ambereen Toubassy, Chief Financial Officer of Airtable, stated “Ultimately, businesses that don’t adopt AI risk falling behind” (Koberg, 2023). If a company does not invest in Artificial Intelligence, it is more likely to slow production and result in the organization's demise. Companies are investing in AI to expedite process procedures and administrative taskings for clerical work and document review. It also being proven that AI is assisting in the quality of life for employees of the organizations that are investing in future capabilities. AI can ease the workload and allow more time for employees to focus on other taskings. “The National bureau of Economic Research estimates that 60% of workers today are employed in occupations that did not exist in 1940. Think about software developers, or social media influencers. While we cannot imagine the future jobs that will be created as AI becomes embedded in work, we can have confidence in what we have learned from past technological shifts” (Koberg, 2023). This leads to the rapidly evolving need for companies to commit to future capabilities, easing the processes for workers in an organization and yields a more productive work environment. The potential future impact that AI may have on the workforce is rapidly evolving. According to our text, “Leadership must guide an organization through change and find ways to help it adapt” (Ahn, Adamson, & Dornbusch, 2004). I predict that most companies that fail to utilize AI will falter and struggle to survive the constant evolution in their respective industry. Unfortunately, not every organization can afford the costs that are incurred to support such AI, thus resulting in the organization falling behind the competition. An organization would utilize Woolner’s Five Stage Model to create a proactive vision for new innovative ideas. The forming stage is simply where an idea is constructed and tabled. The developmental phase is created to take in information from all parties to action the idea. The third phase provides the training needed for members of the organization to begin the change. Once employees begin training and start to incorporate the new procedure the next step is to adapt and alter different components that could be elevated. The final stage incorporates day-to- day operations by fully integrating the change being made into the effective operation (Weiss, 2016).
