Situational challenges always occur due to external forces that impact the work environment. Some external forces that lead to situational challenges include a shift in the market and new policies and regulations (Schmid et al., p 6). The management has a role in providing solutions for the uncertainties that occur. However, technical challenges arise within the work environment; hence, they are easily solvable using the knowledge and understanding of the workplace (Schmid et al., p 7). To address these challenges, the management can establish procedures and processes that are helpful for the employees after they run into the challenges. Adaptive Leadership About the examples provided in the list of the times when adaptive leadership was applied in addressing a specific situation, one can also use adaptive leadership in a merger of an organization (Northouse, p 287). Many processes occur during merging or acquisition in an organization; hence, leaders should have a keen eye on the process. Leaders have a role in providing employees with a footprint to follow to navigate the shift of their roles and responsibilities. Another example is an organization dealing with high rates of retirement. When
2 a more significant number of employees are retiring simultaneously, a leader is supposed to provide solutions to issues such as workload. Management of Distress and Uncertainty Leaders have a role in ensuring they provide solutions for the staff in times of distress and uncertainty. Leaders can offer training and coaching for the employees to ensure they are well-equipped with knowledge and understanding of different situations (Northouse, p 290). Knowing different situations will help employees stay calm while facing an unfamiliar situation in the workplace. Managers can also provide clear and straightforward communication for their workers. Communication is an organization's backbone, helping to understand the problem. Empowerment for Employees Empowerment at the workplace is crucial because it helps provide quality work and, hence, better outcomes. Training programs are among the ways leaders can empower their employees (Northouse, p 297). This is achievable through continuous employee learning, hence a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities in providing better outcomes. Another instance when a leader can empower the members is by promoting self-managed employee teams at the workplace (Northouse, p 297). This helps the employee to make decisions and allocate resources within their departments. This role helps build up employee confidence and self-reflection on areas to improve.
