Samad, S. (2012). The influence of innovation and transformational leadership on organizational performance. Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 57, 486- 493. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sbspro.2012.09.1215 In this article, Samad examines how transformational leadership, innovation, and organizational performance relate to one another in addition to analyzing how transformational leadership and innovation influence the performance of an organization. The author makes use of data obtained from a survey of management staff in logistic firms from Malaysia to examine how innovation and transformational leadership relate to the performance of an organization. Samad’s research places focus on a range of factors that influence organizational performance ranging from leadership and the company’s vision leadership in determining the high performance status of logistics firms in Malaysia. This article is useful to my research because the author implies that transformational leadership and innovation influence the performance of an organization as well as the relationship between innovation, transformational leadership, and the performance of an organization. The paper has helped me to understand the most crucial factor that has an impact on organizational performance. The main limitation of this article by Samad lies in the fact that the sample was only limited to managerial staff. In conclusion, this paper purposed to verify the correlation between transformational leadership approaches, innovation, and the performance of the organization. The author found out that transformational leadership and innovation had a positive link to organizational performance, implying that these factors play a crucial role in the enhancement of organizational performance. The basis of my research will be partially be informed by this paper as a useful supplementary information regarding organizational performance.
Page, L., Kramer, M. R., Klemic, G. (2019). A decade of reviews on leadership: A conceptual perspective and direction. Journal of Leadership, Accountability and Ethics, 16(5), 90- 102. In this article, Page et al. attempt to look for commonalities emerging topics, and patterns regarding leadership styles since 2008. The authors make use of the integrative literature review method according to the framework by Torraco (2005), which makes use of a 3-phase literature review process. The article selection criteria used by Page et al. included the summon database, addressing of the leadership topic, and the utilization of journals published between 2008 and 2018. The scope of the research places focus on four leadership study themes inclusive of training and development, leadership style, employee engagement, and leadership competencies. This paper is of importance to my topic of research, as Page et al. make the suggestion that transformational leadership expansion, with an emphasis toward empowering, participative, and ethical approaches to leadership are the drivers of focusing on the enrichment of employees. The primary limitation of this paper is that the integrative literature review process combines several various study designs and methodologies, which may cause problems with bias, accuracy, or rigor. The authors concluded by suggesting that the evidence was weak in associating leadership that is good with an elevated job satisfaction, modest evidence linking it with elevated well- being, and reduced sick leave risk, and feeble evidence linking it to job performance. This paper will not form the foundation of my research; however, it will be supplementary information for my paper regarding sound leadership.
Erkutlua, H., Chafrab, J. (2015). The effects of empowerment role identity and creative role identity on servant leadership and employees’ innovation implementation behavior. Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 181(11), 3- 11. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sbspro.2015.04.860 In this research work Erkutlua and Chafrab analyze whether both creative role identity and empowerment role identity control the association between innovation implementation behavior and servant leadership. The authors make use of data obtained through the survey of office employees along with their immediate managers in six private Turkish hospitals that treat the eyes to determine whether the relationship between innovation implementation behavior and servant leadership are moderated by the creative role identity and the empowerment role identity. The scope of this research places focus on various considerations including factors that push for the innovation implementation behavior for the employees, creative role identities and empowerment on the innovation implementation behavior, and servant leadership. This article is of great importance to my research topic given that the authors suggest that employee perception of servant leadership holds a positive correlation to the innovation implementation behavior of the employees, which is in support of some of my hypotheses. The primary limitation of this research by Erkutlua and Chafrab is that it was carried out on Turkish eye hospitals thereby making the findings non-transferable to all other organization types. The second limitation of this study involves same source bias given that the same respondents all answered the questions related to innovation implementation behavior, servant leadership, creative role identities, and empowerment. Thus, the authors indicate that future studies should be designed in a fashion that servant leadership and innovation implementation behavior-based questionnaires be filled out by differing participants to avoid same source bias. This article will partially form part of my

research work by providing information related to creative role identity and empowerment role identity. Hall, L. H. (2018). A quantitative correlational study between transformational leadership behavior and job satisfaction among California card room casino employees. Dissertations, 182. https://digitalcommons.brandman.edu/edd_dissertations/182 In this paper, the author attempts to ascertain whether a correlation exists between job satisfaction and transformational leadership behavior among employees of a Californian card room casino. Additionally, the author attempts to determine whether there exists a relationship between laissez-faire, transformational, or transactional leadership among employees of a card room casino in California. The author used data collected from employees working in a Californian card room casino with a quantitative approach to a non-experimental and correlational study with the aim of measuring employee job satisfaction and leadership styles. The scope of the research places focus on a number of factors that are connected to employee turnover such as low wages, poor supervision, a shortage of job security, a shortage of self- development, and overall job dissatisfaction. On the contrary, the author states that factors such as inspirational motivation of employees, wage and benefits increment, and appropriate communication have the potential to diminish the levels of employee dissatisfaction. This paper is useful to my research because it asserts that employee dissatisfaction can be affected by transformational leadership behavior. The main limitation of this research paper is that the study was conducted in just a single facility, implying that the lack of a control group could restrict the findings’ applicability to card room casinos that are in operation in different regions of the country. Therefore, the author recommends that this research should be replicated. The
researcher failed to find any research surrounding California card room casinos, and a study replicated over the years will provide sufficient data on industry trends. Hughes, D. J.; Lee, A.; Tian, A. W.; Newman, A.; Legood, A. (2018). Leadership, creativity, and innovation: A critical review and practical recommendations. The Leadership Quarterly, 29 (5): 549–569. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.leaqua.2018.03.001 In this paper, the authors explore leadership and innovation and workplace creativity considering that leadership is a crucial predictor of team, employee, and organizational innovation and creativity. The authors use a comprehensive literature review of a vast number of empirical studies in their exploration of workplace innovation and creativity and leadership. The authors carry out a systematic literature review regarding the primary effects of leadership on innovation and creativity in addition to another systematic review surrounding the mediating variables. Their research focuses on the assessment of variables ranging from leader variables to proximate mediating variables. This paper is useful to my research because it highlights the significance of leadership towards the fostering of innovation and workplace creativity, thus being of great importance in the development of impactful policy implications and the intriguing theory. The primary limitation in this research paper is that the literature on leadership, innovation and creativity is illustrated by over relying on correlational and cross-sectional data, which do not have the ability to offer robust estimates of the effects as a result of endogeneity biases, thus the authors suggest that future research to utilize more solid designs inclusive of proper leadership, experimental studies, instrumental variables, and longitudinal studies. This paper will be useful in providing additional information regarding leadership and innovation and workplace creativity towards my research.
Marini, B. S. (2017). Leadership traits, divergent thinking, and innovation in higher education. Eastern Michigan University. https://commons.emich.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi? referer=https://scholar.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=2131&context=theses In this paper, Marini identifies the correlation between leader traits, institutional environment, and divergent thinking to give insight to the traits that push for innovation within the academic environment. The author surveyed a population of university and college leaders and placed emphasis on divergent thinking, leadership traits, and innovation. The scope of this study places focus on a number of factors such as market shifts and fluctuations, environmental threats, political uncertainty, and global societal issues in addressing the issue of leadership and innovation within the academic setting. This article is useful for my research given that it talks about the similar characteristics of leadership traits and its effects on innovation. The primary limitation of this research is that it makes the assumption that leaders have power over decisions in the academic setting, such as finance, budgeting, and strategic direction. The research has limitations in terms of identification of the institution as static or dynamic as the basis of responses is on the perceptions of individuals and could be biased. The author concludes by asserting that the institutional setting is crucial in fostering divergent thinking and innovation and should be kept in mind in times of organizational change. Stagnant environments restricted innovation at all levels measured in the institution and leaders are required to address the adaptation need and institutionally evolve. Slimane, M. (2015). In this research paper, Slimane purposes to examine the correlation between leadership and innovation and how leaders are able to play within the various fields of innovation. The author uses a survey towards the identification of the mediating impact of learning orientation on the correlation between firm performance and leadership style. The author employs a questionnaire to test this suggestion. Slimane’s scope of research places focus on various factors including initiative, innovation, and policy instruments to explain the relationship between innovation and leadership and how the characteristics of leaders such as intelligence, adaptability, dominance, integrity, persistence, self-confidence, and socio-economic status are crucial. This paper is useful towards informing my research given it highlights the topic of innovation and leadership. The primary limitation of this research is that the survey is limited to a single institution and does not reflect the entire industry. Thus, the author asserts that further research should be done to replicate the results and offer more sufficient data. This article will form part of my research by adding more information regarding innovation and leadership. References
