Class, Logistics and supply chain are concepts that are interrelated and can only exist with each other. According to McClure, "Logistics refers to the process of managing resources, including how they are transported, stored and received. Logistics often goes hand in hand with the global supply chain" (2023). Basically, logistics is how a company would get its product from the manufacturing plant, stored in the warehouse, and then shipped to the consumer. Logistics departments of companies focus on how to do this process in the most efficient manner that would save the company as much money as they can. The supply chain management function can be viewed as the bigger picture while logistics focuses on just one aspect of the process. According to Russell, "Supply chain management (SCM) is the practice of coordinating the flow of goods, services, information and finances as they move from raw materials to parts supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer" (2001). When looking at the two concepts a person could conclude that logistics is just another part of the supply chain management process that aids a company in coordinating the movement of their products. If this is true I would not have the two separated as they would need to work hand in hand in order to accomplish the mission. The question for further discussion would be: Given the definitions of the two concepts would it be wise to treat them as two separate departments in a company or should they be treated as one complete concept?
