STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 3 Strategic Partnership Introduction Partnerships are collaborations made between different parties to achieve specific targets. In an organizational setup, partnerships are designed to enable the organizations to grow together and support each other to attain their set objectives. In the current economic system, partnerships are essential because, rather than focusing on competing with each other, organizations place their focus on supporting each other in their endeavors to achieve their goals. By collaborating in satisfying consumer needs, there are more likely to improve on quality as they learn from each other (Moritti, 2001, 56). For a partnership to be active between organizations, their objectives must be aligned. However, partnerships do not survive, as organizations are different in several ways. They differ in model, policies, even objectives, and most importantly, in their ways of operations. These differences are most likely to cause the collapse of the partnerships, and this may result in wastage of time and resources. To avoid all these inconveniences, several measures should be considered in the formation of alliances. The organizations must evaluate the partnership to come up with interests that do not conflict. It will enable them to have a smooth collaboration as they will find common ground in most of the things. The partnership should be able to ensure that both parties involved in the partnership can benefit from each other. It can be made possible through a strategic partnership. There are several forms through which strategic alliances can be initiated. It can be as simple as a handshake or may involve the signing of several contracts. However, the critical issue is the ability of the partnership to guarantee the achievement of the set organizational goals. By keeping an open mind attitude, and enhancing communication, connections between organizations can last longer and lead to significant profitable results.

STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 4 Organizational Background Founded in 1954, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is a nonprofit organization that advocates against animal cruelty nationally and purposes to promote the welfare of animals. It encompasses all animals saving to protect the well-being of both farm and wild animals. They also focus on the various research activities that involve animals intending to ensure that no harm is caused to the animals during these research activities. It has made much collaboration with other r affiliate organizations that share the same objectives, such as Human Society International and Fund for animals. The organization was formed after a rationale of the Human movement that originated after the Second World War that purposed to promote kindness to all animals. It was noted that the animals were being subjected to a lot of cruelty. The movement then decided to take a stand on promoting animal welfare by educating people and advocating for kindness towards animals. They associated cruelty towards animals to interpersonal violence, and this relationship strengthens the need for the organization's objectives. The movement influenced the foundation of HSUS. Some of the issues that were of significant concern to the organization involved pollution, destruction of animal habitat, poaching, and animal cruelty. It then sparked severe debates on the issue of animal treatment. Some of the policies they enacted were to advocate for items like the humane slaughter of animals by using methods that would not subject the animal to pain. They argued that all living things were able to experience pain and that animals were no different from human beings. The other issue was the animal research programs that were on the rise after the Second World War. The animal was favored for most research practices as the researchers believed that it was easier to subject animals to suffering that to subject people to suffering. As many people have low regard for animals and not giving much consideration to their pain. Due
STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 5 to this, the HSUS took a stand that regulation should be placed on the research that animals are subjected to. They also focused on animal companionship and the provision of shelters to provides a conducive setup in which animals would be cared for. In this, it collaborated with a few other organizations to offer and run the shelters. Stopping the cruelty that farm animals underwent was another objective that they focus on. They, therefore, advocated for fair treatment of the farm animals. Their movement, however, worked in favor of the animals as many people began the adoption of animals after their crusades. They also have a few goals that are focused on animal welfare. These goals include a reduction in the number of homeless dogs in the streets. It was noted that a large number of dogs are homeless, and hence there was a need to take these dogs to the shelters. Dogs are among the animals that are subjected to a lot of cruelty; thus, most of them end up in the streets. They also want reforms on the inhumane euthanasia practices; they serve to regulate pet shops and hence control the mode in which animals are adopted to ensure that the animals end with the right people who can accord the care they need. Another goal they have is to put an end to the commercial pet breeding those violets animal rights. They also have a stand against violence towards people. It encompasses its protection to the animal researchers and people whose works are aimed at providing a better living environment for animals. Literature Review One of the primary modes of partnerships is through volunteering in a nonprofit organization. These partnerships are essential as they provide an opportunity to engage with the community. It is made possible through partnerships with nonprofit organizations. While it is argued that this partnership may only benefit the nonprofit organization, studies show that volunteering practices go a long way in improving the image of the company in the community (Austine, 2000, 96). It enables excellent forester relationships between the organization and members of the community.
STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 6 Through this engagement, the business can learn about the consumers and how well they can improve their operations to improve their services hence appeal to the consumer. As many people are conversant with the nonprofit organization because they are mostly driven by their need to serve the community, sharing in the brand name of the nonprofit organization could help the business grow. Research findings show that most misfired partnerships are the ones that go a long way in being more successful. Partnership with nonprofit organizations provides a safe business collaboration as the charitable organization is only driven by their need for improving the community. Hence, issues that may arise from conflicts of interest will be minimal. Profit organizations can find it easy to align their objectives with a nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization also gets an opportunity to benefit from the profit organization in terms of avenues for donations. In getting aligned with the profit organization, the nonprofit organization broadens its channels for funding; Members of the nonprofit organization also had an opportunity to sheer ideas with the staff from the profit organization hence enriching each other through exchanging ideas which may lead to innovation. Volunteering has significance importance in the organization. Volunteering in the community set up enables the organization to be able to meet its social responsibilities. In a case where the employees volunteer in the nonprofit organization, it acts as an insight experience that enables them to learn through integration with people and gain skills that would later benefit the organization. Like any other organization, there is need to make proper strategies that enable them provide quality services to the community they serve. This is made possible by fostering the proper relationships that would enable them.

STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 7 Application of concepts Partnerships between profit and nonprofit organizations are likely to accrue much success that is based on their differences. These differences enable them to bring new ideas to the table. Unlike a partnership that may involve both profit organizations which have a high tendency of having the same practices; hence, they may not much benefit from one another. They portray different performance measures. In both setups, the performance measure has led to their success. When they partner up, the organizations can borrow from each other’s strategy of performance measure and hence can come up with ways to improve their performances where necessary. The organizations may also be able to portray different competitive dynamics. Because different motives govern them, their dynamics in the competitive economy are mixed. By forming partnerships, they can be able to improve the dynamics of their competitiveness by advising one another on better ways and the necessary measures that can be taken to improve their competitive margins. Another advantage they may gain from the collaboration is the difference in organizational culture. Each organization is governed by a particular culture that decides how things are run in the organization. When the organizations form a partnership, they can learn from the organizational culture of each other and know how the individual cultures work to benefit the organizations. Hence getting an enriching experience. Through partnerships, organizations can learn new decision-making strategies. Decisions made in every organization set up are essential because these decisions define the outcome of the results of the organization. The decision provides a clear framework that describes how the organization can be able to achieve its set goals. Since the organizations are different entities, their decision strategies are bound to be changed. By combining thoughts from both the organizations, they can come up with more solid strategies as both organizations can see the shortcomings of the other and advise
STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 8 accordingly. They also bring different lines of thought that provide a clear perspective on how things should be done differently to achieve success. The various organizations also have different levels of personnel competitiveness. Since the organizations have different objectives, the urgency in the employees cannot be similar. In their partnership, they can determine the need for urgency and how well issues can be executed swiftly to achieve various objectives. As they merge, the problem of competition is no longer valid. Hence, their primary focus is on supporting one another and advising one another on ways that can enable them to achieve their objectives. The organizations can also learn how to motivate employees to be able to prang out the best in one another through the use of incentives as the employees interact; they also learn how to improve one another. Evaluation The HSUS would benefit from a partnership with a profit organization like ShopRite through many avenues. ShopRite is one of the most successful organizations that have branches on the international level. Collaboration would enable HSUS to be able to take their crusade on a global scale. By making international brand awareness, they are likely to inspire likeminded people on an international level to promote their objectives. HSUS is also able to get more donors from the various stakeholders of Shoprite through this partnership model (Spaceman & Isabella, 2000, 135). HSUS is also able to enjoy a long-lasting relationship as their objectives are not aligned, and hence, there would be no conflict of interest. Shoprite is also able to benefit from the HSUS in that they will be able to take part in animal care, which might appeal to the market category that consists of animal lovers. However, HSUS has a wonderful organization that consists of high and passionate personnel who are more focused on placing the rights of animals before their own this is excellent qualities among employees that a partnering organization could adopt (Ross,
STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 9 2012, 196). The staff is an essential part of the organization as they are the ones to determine. The response system of the HSUS to animal emergencies is admirable. They are always readily available to solve animal issues on a twenty-four-hour basis. Their response to cases of animal cruelty is also of significant importance. They handle this though court orders and mobilizing people for campaigns against the exploitation of animal rights. Working in a nonprofit organization does not require conflict of interest among the personnel. The people working at the HSUS are driven by their passion and the need to advocate against the cruelty of the animals. Getting this kind of employee would be great for any organization as in many organizational setups, the employees are usefully concerned with issues associated with their gain. Through partnerships, Shoprite could benefit from the hiring strategies of HSUS, which will function to help it in being able to acquire employees that are more selfless and can place the needs of the organization before their need. In this case, Shoprite can make more profits without worrying about productivity as it would have acquired goal-oriented employees. The partnership will also improve the operations of the two organizations in the sense that being identified with each other enables them to share in the achievements of each other. Due to the success rate of Shoprite, HSUS can be able to benefit by learning some of the strategies as applied by Shoprite in handling most of its business activities. However, HSUS has not been able successful in stopping the issues of animal cruelty. Most of the animals, especially dogs, are subjected to cruelty in the homes where they have been adopted. Some people also use animals for poaching practice. The HSUS has not come up with clear strategies on how to handle the issues of animal cruelty at the home level. By forming specific groups that can safeguard animal rights at the community level, they can handle this situation. It would require them to form partnerships with members of the society to enable them to be able to handle these issues at the community level. Though the

STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 10 HSUS has been able to able to solve the problem of homelessness for animals such as the stray dogs all over the streets, there are still a lot of stray dogs roaming the streets this calls for more decisive measures of animal protection laws. Another issue the HSUS has failed at safeguarding animals from the accident. Many animals are being run over on the roads every other day and minimal action has been taken against the running of animals on the streets. The HSUS needs to come up with strategies that may safeguard animals from being subjected to road accidents. Through strategic partnerships, most of these shortcomings can be solved, and hence, the organization can achieve its objective as they benefit in a mutual understanding. Conclusion. Partnerships are understandings between two parties with a common purpose. Strategic collaboration between organizations enables organizations to benefit from one another in mutual ways. They support one another to allow each organization to achieve its intended agenda. In the current economic state, organizations face a lot of competition as the market has become saturated as people. For this reason, partnerships provide a better option for the operation of a business for profitable means. Other than competing with one another, companies can focus on work together and support each other. In this manner, it is not easy for the business to collapse. Businesses have different ways of operations and how they carry out their activities within the setup. Through these differences, companies can learn about various strategies used by multiple businesses; hence, they can be able to. Their interaction can enable them to adopt techniques used by the partnering organizations. The HSUS is a nonprofit organization whose primary goal is safeguarding animal rights. Their formation was as a result of the rise in animal cruelty among various people. The brutality that
STRATEGIC PATNERSHIP 11 the animals were subjected to was also evident from the ways animals were handled during slaughter, which made them call for humane methods of treating animals in the massacre. Animal cruelty was also extended to biomedical research, which was preferably done on animals as they were the most convenient for the analysis. They form strategies to prevent the cruelty on animals during an investigation by proposing that there should be regulations placed on the researching. HSUS would benefit from a partnership with a profit organization because they will be able to form a larger brand that will improve its brand, and hence, its objectives can be well met in society. They can also learn from each other’s operational procedures from which they can know how to structure themselves to achieve their goals. HSUS works in collaboration with other organizations that deal with animal welfare to provide shelters for abandoned animals where they can be well catered for and receive medical care. Through HSUS, people were more inclined towards animal adoption. The profit organization also benefits in several ways from the partnership as its employees volunteer in the partnership they can gain insight and skill that would be useful to them in their operations within the organization hence benefiting both the organizations and the nonprofit.
