Part 4 (4) Objective: To provide you with an opportunity to consider new technology and its impact on job roles and job design . Requirement: What potential impact could new technology have on job roles and job design? Technology has a significant impact on job roles and job design. Few of the jobs become redundant due to new technology, and other places lose their importance. Many manual tasks have become automated, thus replacing the low-skilled workers with machines. Job roles have also increased as low-skilled workers are in less demand and are being paid low salary whereas high-skilled workers are in great order and are paid high salary thus raising wage inequality. Think about a technological change that has taken place in your organisation or sector in the past. From an HR strategic planning point of view, what worked well and what were the lessons learned from this experience? How does this inform your current strategic planning activity? I am working with a Banking organization. When the banking services became automated with the installation of mobile banking, there was much chaos. It was not easy to synchronize the mobile data with the account records. So many of the jobs like cashier and currency board became redundant. However gradually became pretty easy, and the customer's query was resolved quickly over the phone. Thus the low-skilled worker's job got redundant.
