Area of Licensure and Grade Level: EC-12 Special Education
-
Since my area of licensure is special education, my lesson plans and accommodations are
based on a third grade ELAR curriculum. Accommodations I would provide: Accommodations for Students with Dyslexia:
1. Provide audio recordings or read-alouds of the text to support comprehension and reduce reading barriers.
2. Use dyslexia-friendly fonts and formatting in all materials to improve readability.
3. Break down complex vocabulary words into smaller parts and provide explicit instruction on decoding strategies.
4. Offer opportunities for multi-sensory learning, such as using manipulatives or tactile materials,
to reinforce concepts.
Accommodations for Students with High Functioning Autism:
1. Create a structured and predictable environment with clear expectations and routines.
2. Use visual supports, such as visual schedules or graphic organizers, to aid in understanding and organization of information.
3. Provide social stories or scripts to help students navigate social interactions during discussions.
4. Allow for flexible seating options or designated quiet spaces for students who may need sensory breaks or prefer alternative seating arrangements.
Accommodations for Students with Visual Impairments:
1. Provide materials in accessible formats, such as Braille, large print, or digital text with screen reader capabilities.
2. Use tactile diagrams or models to represent visual information, such as maps or illustrations.
3. Provide verbal descriptions of visual elements, including anchor charts and other visual aids.
4. Encourage the use of assistive technology, such as screen readers or magnification devices, to access digital resources.
