Fish Camp 2022 DG Activity Template
Activity Name: DG Crafts
Activity Description: This next activity will be a pre-made canvas or other craft, made by the
counselors decorated to say Camp XXX. We will then pass out paint pens for them to write their name on the back of the craft and then once they are done have them pass it to their right. The person to their right will then write something that they enjoyed about the camper with a thin sharpie. They will
continue to pass it to the person to their right until it gets back to the person who originally put their name. Purpose of Activities (In this section, include how the activity is inclusive and appropriate for DG Time, how it relates to the Lakeview Learning Outcomes, what you want freshmen to take from the activity, and how the Fish Camp Mission and Values are exemplified as the foundation for planning the activity.) This activity will be inclusive to everyone because every camper will receive a craft that is appropriately decorated to represent Camp XXX. We want them to take a physical representation of the support system they have developed throughout their time at camp. Everytime that the camper may be feeling overwhelmed during the school year they can look back at the craft and see that they are accepted and loved. This will embody the mission of fish camp and further continue building long term relationships. Supplies Needed:
pre-made/decorated crafts, sharpies
Physical Risks:
Are there dangers of slips/trips/falls? Yes/No
Will potentially dangerous objects be used?
Yes/No
Could injury happen from personal contact?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
A freshman might fall out of their chair if they aren’t sitting in it properly. We will remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings and to sit in their chairs correctly so they don’t fall and hurt themselves. We will be using sharpies, so freshmen could potentially injure themselves with them. We will make sure all freshmen are using the sharpies solely for writing and remind them not to play with them. If they do injure themselves with a sharpie we will again ask about bandaids and have them wash it off.

When we pass the crafts around for everyone, someone might pass it too aggressively and accidentally hurt someone else. We will remind them to make sure they know when and how they’re passing it to so the other person isn’t caught off guard. Reputation Risks:

If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
A freshman might write something down that misrepresents FC and TAMU M&V. We will remind all freshmen to remain appropriate and that the purpose of the activity is to figure out what
we would like to do as a DG when we are back in College Station. A freshman might write something that could compromise their reputation if it’s more explicit or vulgar. We will remind all freshmen to be appropriate and not include any that are inappropriate. Emotional Risks:

Are there any additional potential risks?

If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
A freshman might get emotional if they don’t know what to write. We will remind everyone that the purpose is to have a memory from camp so they don’t need to write a lot for it to be meaningful. A freshman might get emotional if they notice other people have more or better messages on their craft. We will remind everyone that the purpose is to have a keepsake from camp and not
to compare other people’s crafts. Depending on what a freshman writes, they may say something that involves race, gender identity, or something else controversial. We will make sure everyone knows to be respectful and appropriate on each other’s crafts. Facilities Risks:

If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
We will be using sharpies, which could make a mess if someone drops one. We will be sure to tell
everyone that if they drop it we are to try to clean

it. We will also make sure that we are only using them to write on the crafts. We will need to clean up after we are done if we make a mess. Any sharpies or extra crafts will be taken by DG leaders at the end. Financial:

to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
We will be making crafts and using sharpies. We will split costs as counselors so it isn’t too much. We will also see if other DG leaders want to share.
Fish Camp 2022 DG Activity Template
Activity Name: Bucket List
Activity Description: In this activity we will be compiling a DG “bucket list.” This will include all the things we want to do or the meet-ups we want to have after camp, whether that be going to 75
cent pizza roll day at Gumbys on Tuesday, meeting at a sonic, etc. Purpose of Activities (In this section, include how the activity is inclusive and appropriate for DG Time, how it relates to the Lakeview Learning Outcomes, what you want freshmen to take from the activity, and how the Fish Camp Mission and Values are exemplified as the foundation for planning the activity.) The purpose of this activity is for our DG to embody the value of loyalty since we are planning to remain friends after camp. The DG leaders will explain that this is just the beginning, not the end. This will get the freshmen excited about the new school year and about seeing each other again. It will open a door and pose an opportunity for the freshmen to suggest future activities with the DG parents and/or the rest of the DG. The freshmen should understand after completing this activity that FC never ends, and that its support system is an ongoing resource throughout their college experience. Supplies Needed:
index cards, pencils/pens (not necessarily required)

could potentially injure themselves with them. We will remind all freshmen to use the notecards just for writing so they don’t play with them and get a paper cut. If they get a paper cut, we will ask a chair where we can find a bandaid and have them wash it. We will make sure all freshmen are using the pens solely for writing and remind them not to play with them. Freshmen might see the activity as an empty promise to hang out with them and get emotional if
they’ve had negative experiences with friends. We
will remind them that us as DG leaders are there to support them and will be hanging out with them after camp. Depending on what freshmen write, it may involve an activity centered around a specific race, gender
identity, or other controversial things. We will

If a freshman drops their pen, the ink could get on the floor. We will remind everyone to keep their pens in their laps or lightly set them on the floor if they are finished. Since we are using notecards and pens, we will need to make sure we don’t leave anything behind. We will be sure to have everyone pick up any trash around them at the end of the activity. Financial:

Notecards and pens will be used, so we will split costs amongst DG leaders or use notecards/pens we already own.
