Discussion #2
Select one benefit and compliance issue identified in Module 3
and share why you feel it is a potentially risky one of which all organizations need to be aware.
Use a minimum of one reference from the class materials. No need to respond to other students.
Since I chose medical insurance as the most important benefit
in my last post, I feel as if it is best to use it for potential compliance issues. As I commented in my last post, medical insurance comes with a high financial commitments and responsibility. Organizations must adhere to the complexities of healthcare regulations changing insurance landscapes, which can lead to increased costs and potential compliance issues ("Module 3: Core Elements of Non-monetary Rewards and Work Experience," n.d.). One compliance issue that I would like to talk about is the Family and Medical Leave Act of
1933 (FMLA). FMLA is a legislation that allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks unpaid leave per year for specific family and medical reasons, such as birth or adoption of a child, caring for ill family member, or dealing with personal health issues (Family and medical leave act," n.d.). Employers must accurately track and document employees' leave, maintain records, and correctly designate FMLA-eligible leave. Failure to do so can result in legal and financial consequences, including fines and penalties (Vary, 2019).
