Unit 3 – Assignment: FEMA Certificate
After completing the online certification for the introduction to Incident Command
System, I have gained so much more knowledge regarding ways to manage an organization that
helps any type of incident including a planned event. For example, the Olympics, the Governor’s
inauguration, state fairs, a local parade, etc. After reviewing the lessons, I learned that the
Incident Command System not only provides an organizational structure for incident
management, but it also guides the process for planning, building, and adapting that structure.
In lesson two, I reviewed the chain of command. The Chain of Command is an orderly
line that details how authority flows through the hierarchy of the incident management
organization. During this certification process, effective accountability during incident operations
is essential. In every organization, there is a structure one must abide by. There are always
policies and guidelines and any applicable local, tribe, state or federal rules and regulations. To
conclude, the Incident Command System is essential to provide the utmost safety.
