1- PREDICTIVE Your firm has just acquired another organization. They have many of the same customers, and a Customer Database Integration Project has been approved to combine all customer data into a central one for the newly merged firm. Because of privacy and compliance issues, this project will be audited. You have project experience in this area as you have just completed the migration of customer data internally, moving this from older legacy systems. Your team will be comprised of both internal staff and external security experts. Besides the technical aspects of this project, you will also work with your marketing teams on communication with customers, particularly since access to the other organizations systems will stop by the end of the year.
2- ADAPTIVE You have been appointed by senior management to manage the Anniversary Project celebrating the organization’s 50th year. They know they want to celebrate this anniversary next year and have set aside a project budget of one million dollars. Aside from this, they don’t know what this should include. You have been assigned a dedicated team from your events department who will work with you 100% on this project. They are very creative and have lots of neat and fun ideas that can be implemented over the course of the 50th year celebration, but these will have to be tested by the team and presented to the senior management, employees, and customers of the organization to gather feedback before implementing. 3- PREDICTIVE Your firm has decided to build and set up a new manufacturing facility in another country and must have it operational within 3 years. The Build and Manufacturing Facility Project will be the first of many as the company expands worldwide. Since you have been the project manager on several similar projects within Canada, you have many project assets that may be repurposed. However, there are regulatory and other legal ramifications working in this other country. You have hired a local consultant to aid with these, but still need to hire and coordinate with various vendors, both locally and internationally to ship and set up the equipment. 4- ADAPTIVE The PMExpo Tradeshow Floor Project’s objective is to set up the exhibit hall for the PMExpo. The layout of the trade show floor depends on the number of sponsors and each of the sponsor’s requirements. You will need to regularly gather feedback from the sponsors and based on last year’s experiences, you expect there will be many changes to incorporate. You are lucky to have a strong and dedicated team assigned to the project who are very creative. The good news is you can break the scope of the project down to simple tasks and prioritize these. 5- PREDICTIVE The PMExpo Venue Booking Project will review possible locations for the PMExpo and will book and then coordinate with the final venue. The project stakeholders have identified some very specific requirements for the venue that must be implemented. Sign-off from project sponsor is needed to start this work. The venue selection process is very complex with many dependencies and requirements. For this project, you have negotiated for a cross functional team from several departments, each with specific skills, that will be working on the project on a part-time basis. 1- ADAPTIVE A Marketing Campaign Project has been awarded to a major advertising agency. Their client wishes to launch a new cable service to their existing client base. They have a firm budget and a set 6-month timeframe. Within this project, the creative and dedicated agency team expects to create and roll out several marketing efforts including TV ads, email, and social media, each targeting a different market segment. They will monitor and gain
feedback on each of these from their client and their customers and will then adjust their backlog as the work progresses. 2- PREDICTIVE Your firm has just acquired another organization. This decision meant the company no longer required space in an office tower in the downtown area, so they leased a smaller industrial space on the outskirts of the city. This Office Move Project will involve moving all the remaining equipment, IT infrastructure, senior staff offices and meeting spaces to this new location. The new layout and budget have been approved by senior management and they have mandated no changes. Due to the lease termination date in the office tower, the move must be done and completed by the August long weekend. Besides managing the physical move, you will need to coordinate this project with staff and contracted movers. 4- ADAPTIVE The PMExpo Attendee Database Project is to create a backend database for the PMExpo website, the mobile app, and to help address future research needs for the association staff. The product owner is asking that the database be available 24/7 and be secure. You will need to get feedback and learn about additional requirements to be added to the backlog. It is great that you have a dedicated team that has already started to organize themselves to work on this project. 5- ADAPTIVE A key client has just called you. They have been able to negotiate a great space in the downtown area for another new restaurant. They have received approval from their investors and bank on a set budget. For the New Restaurant Project, they would like to get to work right away, and ideally would like to be able to do take-away orders first, then do lunches and finally provide a full evening dinner – helping to bring in revenue as the project evolves, but also gathering feedback from their customers to refine their menu offerings. You have dedicated team of creative restaurant renovators, who have worked together previously.

The PMExpo Sponsorship project will attract sponsors for the PMExpo event. After last year’s Expo, there was a lessons learned session that recommended several updates to the requirements. There are several constraints for the project which include non- negotiable dates and revenue objectives, and these will need to be monitored. The project will be complex due to the dependencies with other projects and the relationship with sponsors. Which project approach would you recommend? This upgrade is required every few years. The software is used across the organization, and it will impact many departments who use it and their various formulas built into Excel spreadsheets. There are tight timeframes due to accounting reporting periods plus regulatory and compliance issues to consider. You have negotiated with functional managers across the organization for part-time staff to ensure you have representation from all areas, and you have hired an external team of consultants to help advise on the complexity on this project. Which project approach would you recommend? Correct match: Predictive Feedback Based on answering correctly Congratulations! The predictive approach is recommended.
