Unit 11 Forum
Find a video of a public speaker that you think is effective and persuasive. (Ted Talks
are a great source.) Analyze the speaker's performance, consider:
What elements of the presentation stood out?
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's content?
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in this course
and in the future)?
Craft your analysis into a few paragraphs and paste a link to the video and your written
analysis into the Forum post.
Great work breaking down all the sections in your analysis. Simon Sinek is
one of the top names when it comes to effectively presenting to an audience.
I do agree that as a presenter, he has a lot of energy and charisma that just
comes across as positive. While we tend to not be able to quantify such
things, energy and charisma are innate qualities that we can identify as
human beings. It helps keep the crowd engaged, makes crowd work a lot
easier, and usually can make up for even some elements that are weak in
the actual presentation. I also think a white board is a very good visual aid. It
adds suspense while the presenter is sketching or writing something, and it
is so basic that even a layman can visualize concepts if they are drawn from
scratch. While I do like his method of engaging the audience with common
Jargon's I do wish at times he would break it down a bit further. While most of
his followers will be in line with such strong terms, it may detract newer
members from listening in if they are more focussed on trying to figure out
the content of his presentation than they are to saying attention to it.
