BSBWHS616 Apply safe design principles to control WHS risks Self-study Guide © 2022 RTO Works 3 Activity Task Expected time Completed Watch & research Watch one of the videos from the RTO Works video series: Risky Business Conduct your own research to answer the following questions: What are some ways that risk management can help create a safer work environment? What consequences will be faced if risk management isn’t successfully applied ? How can WHS principles support risk assessment? 2 hours Practical activity Meet with a few classmates to discuss potential WHS hazards in your workplaces. Think about the processes that managers need to follow when providing advice on risk controls and measures and the hierarchy of controls. Explain what you will need to do during each of the following steps to address an identified risk: Elimination Substitution Isolation Engineering Administrative 4 hours Research Research how consulting arrangements are involved in each design process phase and how it is used to identify new or potential risks. How are risks and hazards identified at different stages of the product lifecycle? How can considerations such as exposure of hazards to users affect the designer’s input in the design process? Take notes to share in class. 4 hours Review Review your assessment requirements for this unit and read through your Project Portfolio so you know what you will be required to do. Make sure you review your Student Guide if you need to revisit some areas of your training. Ask your trainer any questions before you begin your 3 hours
