Assignment 3: Correlation and regression analysis
Management Research for Decision Making
MANA 420
–
Fall 2023
–
Section A
Instructor: Barbara Reda
The purpose of this assignment is for students to build their skills in (a) developing ideas about
relations among variables, (b) writing hypotheses, (c) analyzing data using a statistical package,
(d) interpreting results of data analyses, and (e) communicating the results of data analyses in a
clear and scholarly manner. All these skills will be required to complete the final research report.
For this assignment, students will work together in teams to analyze data based on the student
survey completed by MANA 420 students at the beginning of the term (i.e., Survey X), and write
a report of their findings. This assignment is worth 5% of your final grade in the course.
DUE DATE: 2:45pm, November 14 via Moodle
NOTE: Please follow APA reporting standards and submit assignment as a Word document.
For this assignment, you need to:
1. Develop two hypotheses
about relations among variables measured in Survey X. The first
hypothesis must be a bivariate hypothesis that can be tested using correlation analysis. The
second hypothesis must be a hypothesis with more than two variables that can be tested with
multiple regression. Note that you must include the focus variable, fear of failure (
the full index
this time, like we learned in class!)
, as one of the variables in both hypotheses. The other
variables that you include in the hypotheses are up to you, but they (i) cannot be the same
variable you looked at in assignment 2 and (ii) you must choose from variables that were
measured on the survey. Write your hypotheses in a proper manner.
2. Analyze data using JASP.
Use your
extended
Survey X data file (
that is, the data file to
which you added extra participants for Assignment 2
). Perform statistical analyses (i.e., bivariate
correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis) to test your hypotheses using JASP.

3.
Write a brief report
(
not more than 850 words total, excluding appendix
) that includes:
A.
A paragraph (approximately 150 words)
labelled “Introduction” that provides a brief
theoretical explanation for each of your hypotheses using clear logic aided by past
theories or evidence from research.
B.
A paragraph (approximately 150 words)
labelled “Participants” that describes the
number
of participants and their demographic characteristics (e.g., gender breakdown and age).
C.
A section (approximately 150 words) label
led “Measures” that describes the measure
for
each variable used in your hypotheses (include the reliability where appropriate). Make
sure you start each measure on a new line and describe each measure separately. Also be
sure to cite the measure you use if necessary.
D.
A section (approximately 150 words)
labelled “Results” that describes your
findings
(including the statistical support for your conclusions). Make sure you report results for
each hypothesis separately.
E.
A paragraph (approximately 150 words)
labelled “Discussion” that provides a practical
application, implication, or recommendation for each of your findings.
F.
An appendix that includes your annotated computer output, labelled and highlighted for
clarity.
4.
Include a CRediT authorship
statement
to outline
each group member’s contribution to this
assignment.
