SCM 305 HW 6 1. What is quality? Quality is the idea of comparing something to something else and determining the practical value of it based on the use. 2. What is a population? A population is a large group of people or things that live in a similar area. 3. What is a sample? A sample is a small number of people from the larger group. 4. How does the push system differ from the pull system? Push is different in that it produces goods and services based on predictions for the market In the future. As with the pull system, production of the good or service doesn’t begin until the consumer/ customer has consumed said good. 5. If a company is implementing a Kanban system and has captured the following data, how many Kanbans do they need in their system? The company is conservative and does not want to run out of product. a. Container size = 345 b. Lead time = 4 days c. Usage = 500 per day 500*4/ 345= 5.79 or 6 containers 6. Random samples were taken by the TLW Company from two different populations as part of a survey. A 31 10 69 52 62 61 46 71 57 74 38 92 B 1030 1111 1155 978 934 983 923 1067 1013 a. Compute the mean for each sample 573/12 9212/ 9 A= 47.75 B= 1023.56 b. Compute the standard deviation for each sample.
A: = sqrt(4818.25/11)= 5.0533 B: =sqrt(45514.6919/8)= 3.7519 c. Calculate the Cv A: 5.033/47.75*100= 11.84% B: 3.7519/1023.556*100= 0.3646% d. Which sample has the lowest variation as a % of the mean? Based on the CV, sample B has the lowest variation as a % of the mean. e. Why is the Cv a good measure for this data? It gives you an idea of the ratio between both data sets to see the variation spread across. 7. If a data set has 600 data points, how many classes of data will you need to create a frequency distribution? =2^k=600: Will need 10 Classes 8. Compute the frequency distribution for the following data: 54 14 18 35 13 92 23 22 60 15 22 41 14 91 28 12 55 38 38 50 18 89 35 13 70 23 22 37 37 75 29 7 73 27 18 40 44 77 13 11 74 23 22 42 16 40 27 21 86 28 21 13 11 78 28 28 94 19 10 47 16 84 42 33

Establish the class boundaries Intervals Lower Upper 3-16 2.5 16.5 17-30 16.5 30.5 31-44 30.5 44.5 45-58 44.5 58.5 59-72 58.5 72.5 73-86 72.5 86.5 87-100 86.5 100.5
